Hi Taylor, welcome to the hog. There could be a lot of problems as to why your pic didnt come out sharp....One could be the camera itself...Now if you used a Canon......LOL

Seriously, did you have it set on auto with the lens set on manual? That is a possibility. Or, do you use glasses? If so, you need to look through the eyepeice, there will be a knob somewhere near the eyepiece, as you turn it, the focus will come in sharp to blurry depending on your glasses prescription. Check that out....Or, you can take the camera into your local camera store...if they are worth anything, they will have a tester to see if your camera focus is out of whack or not.

Welcome Taylor
When I do bridges, I use manual focus in the view finder, and make sure that the foreground is in focus. If you use F18-F22, the rest will be too. I think this would also work for railroad tracks. Although, you do have a building that needs to be in focus, so you'll want to fiddle in your manual focus to make sure that is acceptably sharp. That's just my Newbie Humble Opinion. I still love this photo

I think it was just out of focus to begin with. Your shutter speed of 1000 should off set camera shake to a large degree. Brighter would be good but maybe you wanted to show that type of atmosphere. By the way, is that the entrance to Auschwitz?

I Have found with most lenses I very rarely use autofocus. Also if you buy a grey card and learn how to adjust your white balance this will make a fair bit of difference.
Agreed, autofocus seems to have let me down here. White balance is fine , I think, it's more a question of exposure reducing the white scene to an 18% grey.........

Hi Taylor Welcome! I am not sure why you picked those settings? Seem like a very high shutter speed, and F4 seems a little off to. Was it really that dark out? I think the shutter speed was the problem. I would go back and look at your other shots that were done just before this that came out and see what the camera or you did on those.

That's just it, I didn't pick anything, it was all auto. Should have picked snow or beach scene, would have helped with exposure. Other shots before and after we're at same aperture, but 1/400 sec. They were also at another site. This place....... There was something weird about the light.
