hi there i use picasa to view my photos and also email them to people occasionally as it has a very user friendly interface and is very easy to use, however i have to mail some pics for a competition and wondered if there would be any problem with the quality of the pics if i use picasa to mail them
thanks
Bill
Sorry, I never used picasa and I don't know anything about it. What are the guidelines for the completion, are there any restriction I regard to that on picasa?

There was a thread about a week or two ago about this. You have got to find out what the rules are for the competition regarding size etc. In Picasa you will need to use features to save the image in the size "you" choose instead of the automatic sizes it chooses for emailing.
If you want to email the full file size, while you have a photo open in Picasa, go up to Tools, then Options, then the email tab. Select "original size."
If you have made any changes, be sure to save or save as prior to emailing.

First, read the requirements for the competition CLOSELY.
Now, click on the 'Tools' tab, then 'Options', then 'Email'.
I would suggest that you tick the box 'Original size' in 'Size for single pictures". That will ensure that Picasa doesn't resize your entry when emailing, as long as you only send one image at a time.
That being said, please read the 'competition' rules very closely.
Quite a few require that you give up all rights to ANY ENTRIES. Not just the winners.

I can't understand why folks want to email from Picasa. It is an editing programme.
If I email pic's I attach it to an email, from my pictures or where ever the pic is stored, & send it through my mail programme. Picasa only stores thumbnails of pic's.
Your actual photo file is in [My Pictures], in my case, not in Picasa. I open a pic in Picasa to edit, then save or save as to add a copy back to My pictures folder.
What's the problem??

Probably because that's the long way round.
Picasa will send a the exported version of the photo together with edits that have been applied. Picasa never alters the original photo, but instead stores a history of edits in the picasa.ini file
e.g.
[P1080773.JPG]
filters=unsharp2=1,0.600000;finetune2=1,0.087719,0.000000,0.000000,00000000,0.000000;
backuphash=27473
You can you specifically export it, but that's not usually in the original directory by default. If you don't export it then you don't take up additional disk space.
Question for "Linda from Maine and Wall-E :. If I go to Picassa as you suggest, I noticed there is a slider for multiple images. What is it for and what should it be set at.. Thanks
There is an add on to Windows Explorer that allows you to reduce file size. To use it, you bring up the pictures in Explorer, select the ones that you want to resize and then right click to bring up the resize window. Options are there for picture resizing. Google for Windows Picture resizer.

as i said i like to view all my pics through picasa, not just edit them and its very easy whilst in that programme to email pics to friends and family, most of the time the quality of the image in these circumstances isnt too important, on this occassion it is, hence the question.

Picasa allows you to specify the email file size options for 2 situations. A single image, or more than one image in a single email.
DO NOT send multiple contest entries in a single email.
The largest image you can send that way is 1600 pixels on the long side.
The multiple option is intended for people sending snapshots to friends/family and not making the email too large.

It's integrated with my gmail account.
It saves me a *number* of steps in emailing an image.

I use Picasa in conjunction with Picasa Webalbums to share my photos. I upload from Picasa to Picasa Webalbums in "original image size" and then "share via email" with those people I want to see the photos. Works great. Don't think it would work for a contest though.
