Am trying to see if I can do a still life with a more contemporary feel. Not sure just what might define that.

Keep experimenting, these series are great and lighting is a work in progress always as there are more ways to light a subject. My favorite is the fruit. The colors shape and textures really got my eye. The blue vase I like but that is what could use a series of lighting changes alone to get a real feel for the characteristics of the glass. But this is good work.

I like these a lot! The richness of colors in #1 and the softness and color of #2 - very pleasing.

Nice! I really like #1 and #3. #2 seems too sparse to me and rather chilly.
I would play around with the table surface on #1. #3 could be a magazine ad. Great shots!

They are all very nice, I especially like the pomegranates

These are very nice, especially the juicy pomegranates. Lots of rich textures and fabulous color. You might try repositioning the fruit in the bowl. The top right pomegranate's placement looks a bit far to the right to my eye. Otherwise, gorgeous!

On your first series, I liked #1 the best. I like the different approach you took on #1 in this series, although not as much as #1 in the first series, but think #3 is the show stealer in this series.

I want to try some some still life for the first time this winter when I can't shoot as much outside. I'm learning a lot from the work you're posting. You do a really good job. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you,
I didn't have anything outside to shoot so thought I would practice inside to learn more about lighting. I may try playing with the vase a bit more. I was going for a sort of high key look, will try low key next and maybe backlighting.

Thank you,
The background on 1 is a piece of wallpaper and the one on 3 is holiday wrapping paper. Table surface is textured plastic over a stone tile.
2 was my attempt at a sort of sparse look.
3 was a fun bar shot.

The pomegranates are nice this year, I hope to play with some oranges later as well.

Thank you, I believe you're right I will try to pay better attention next time. I get so caught up in the colors sometimes I don't notice all I should.

I did not realize I did not comment on this when you posted in Sept. I should have as this post has stuck in my mind for a while. I love the old-world feel of the poms, even tho' you were going for "contemporary", the shot has merit. I love the quiet frosty feel of #2. sorry I was so late to the party!

Thanks Carlysue,
I appreciate the kind words. I love playing with the poms. I only have one left now and I've let it get all old and dry to play with later.
thanks again,
mariak
