I am currently using a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon 18-70 and a Tamron 70-300 VC but was thinking about selling these two lenses and buying a Nikon 18-200 VR2. Adorama is selling a used one with an E+ rating for $559 and a refurb for $659. I rarely use the 70-300 and was wondering what you guys think? Thanks for any feedback.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions regarding the 18-200 and the 16-85 which is also quite tempting. I am not going to rush into any purchase and will continue to use the 18-70 which I think is the best bang for the buck lens out there. I only paid $105 for it in mint condition and enjoy it very much.

I use the 55-200 about 75% of the time but i think I would use the 28-300 95% of the time. I also think that would be a wise decision. Sorry i didn't select that from the beginning for myself.

I also have a D7000 and D7100, I use the 18-300mm DX f/3.5-5.6 on one of my camera's for a walk around lens. Also have the 10-24mm for landscape's, sunsets. I like the reach of the 18-300mm, and very fast focusing Lens.

I have had the 18-200 since it first arrived on the scene. Used it on a D90 . Now, with the D7100 an even though I have bought FX lens to improve resolution--after 6 months, I find myself reaching increasingly for the 18-200 and I am pleased to see that in photo mag tests, it continues to rank very high on all measures of performance.

I agree. It's amazing at such a low price. I bought mine new and think it was well worth the money.

Nice to see someone "taking their time". And you're right about the 18-70mm lens. It was the first lens I bought when I purchased a Used D80. It came then with rave reviews, and I never had any problem with it. Only sold it for something almost in same range but with f2.8 across the focal range. Keep it, as they don't sell for all that much these days !

I have a D7000 & used the 18-200 most of the time. I love that lens. I now have the 18-300 & it's fantastic! I also have a D800 but miss the range of the 180-300. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 18-200 or 18-300 for your D7000.

I'm new to the hedge but have been enjoying your comments for awhile. Just an amateur but have been shooting since many years ago with my Pentax Spotmatic.
I purchased the 18-200 VRI with my D70 seven years ago and have loved using it and it was on my camera 95% of the time. It was great for travel and not too heavy for all day touring. It's range is ideal for most vacation travel. The lens creep is a real drag however. Alas the VR went out and I purchased a D7000 and a new 18-200 VR II and it works great with no lens creep due to the lens lock. But then the 18-300 price was discounted and I picked up a new one from B&H. It is heavier but I seldom take it off the camera since getting it. The pictures are wonderful to my not to critical eye. I have kept the 18-200 because it is lighter and there are times I just don't want the extra weight for day long use. I still have the 18-70 and use it now and then. I bought a DX 35mm 1.8 for no flash opportunities and I have a Canon G15 which has a 1.8 lens and I keep it on my belt if I need it for low light or a make do macro shot. You will not go wrong with the 18-200 but if you can take the extra weight get the 18-300. Good luck and enjoy the search.
