I have looked at taking online photo courses. There are really only two that I look at with serious attention--PPSOP by Bryan Peterson and his books. The second one is Karl Taylor DVD series. The reason I have not signed up any of these is between utube and articles/books you can get most of this information.

I suggest any classes by Ben Wilmore, Lesa Snider or Dave Cross. I like Ben the best but they all have something different to teach.

Whatever you do, DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THE NEW YORK INSTITUTE OF PHOTOGRAPHY!!!!! I fell for that and was I disappointed! A waste of money!!! Non-professionals that still teach film technology and no real information about photography. You'll learn more here, on UHH, than at the New York School of Photography.

I have learned a lot from the tutorials on youtube and am right now taking a portraits course from flying photo school. I was very uneasy about it at first but it has proved very informative. However i would wait for a groupon for it i was able to take this course for $27 I wouldn't EVER pay the full $97 they want for it. It's well worth the $27 but don't think its worthy of a $100 sticker price. Its only 4 weeks and there is a homework assignment for each week. However if you're looking for FREE information this website and youtube win HANDS DOWN. Just my .02 :)

Calling online classes education is like calling cybersex making love, or the George Foreman grill a barbecue

Check to see if Scott Kelby has any upcoming classes in your area--I have taken over two million exposures, and won many awards--but have never left his class without knowing things I didn't know when I walked in the door.

That may be a bit harsh. NYIP has decent materials and their critique of one's submitted photos is very good. As some have said, it is expensive and there are many other sources of excellent information to consider. I like the Exposure book on first glance. Udemy.com has some mini-courses, and some are free. They often provide a 50% off coupon. I paid for their Black & White Photography course, but I think it would be more properly titled, "How to Spend Hours and Hours Post-Processing your Color Images in Photoshop to Simulate Black & White Photographs." Although I must say I learned a lot about Photoshop!
