I bought a new pc with W8 pre-installed... It took me a fortnight (slight exageration) to learn how to get into the things I needed most. PSP x4 didn't work nor did a lot of the other programmes that I used regularly. I swore, blasphemed, screamed and very nearly threw the whole heap of garbage in the bin. Three valliums (or should that be vallii) and half dozen slugs of 12 year old malt.. and I relaxed.. That was 10 months ago... I'm still not totally au fait with it... I still don't particularly like it but I'm learning (with patience) to live with it, but still wish I'd stuck with XP..

That it led me back to Apple, which has its own problems but it's Windows 8!

Interestingly, the Metro screen seems to have the look and feel of a cluttered desktop - the kind everyone said you weren't supposed to have in W-7.

I'm keeping my XP till they come out with something better than Windows 8. Installed it for a friend and I hated it and he hates it more, as he has to use it.
People are always trying to make a better mouse trap. XP was just that, as far as I am concerned. So, in answering your question, nothing! Good luck!

I just acquired a laptop that has Widows 8 on it. I've used it for about four weeks now and I don't have many good things to say about it. In the next week or so I'll be removing windows 8 and replacing it with widows 7.

Wait for the upgrade, if your running Win 8 your supposed to get 8.1 free according to the various computer web sites, if it doesn't fix the problems you can still go to Win 7, jsut a thought,
Bob.

What do I 'like' about Windows 8? I like the fact that I don't have to run it.

The first thing I did was find a 'Start' button replacement. There are a number of them out there. Now with Windows 8.1, Microsoft has put it back.

I have found that Windows 8 works great on a Mac under Parallels- the multi-gesture touchpad ( Magic Trackpad) makes the difference. I would imagine that using a multi-gesture touchpad and a touch-screen would make Windows 8 a pretty good system.

I like Windows 8 have been using it from day one, it has got a start button but but it's not in the bottom left corner.
I do not use the metro screen much except for going to the "Desktop" then it looks like Windows 7. I still use Windows 7 on my laptop and the back up PC. I also have a Windows 8 phone, which I also like a lot, my second mobile phone with Android on it, I like that as well.
All these OS's are very good and I cannot understand why this subject causes so much heated debate.
I know nothing about Mac though and I am sure Apple/Mac users are very happy with their choice.
I would think that many UHH members have a camera which has very complex menus which they can handle, so why can they not manage to use a new Windows OS.

I had windows 7 and seen where I could upgrade to win8 for $44....something like that....hmmm about 8 months ago...and at first I thought it was just great...until I couldn't find "anything"....where's my pictures?....etc etc....and thought about going back to 7 but what would that accomplish?....and meanwhile I bought a laptop "with" windows 8 touch....and like it better than the desktop....
It's still hard to get around without someone to guide you....but it has a "lot more" things you can do.....
Just my opinion...."Buck"

Should have stayed in the Navy and keep "swabbin" the decks. As far as I know that hasn't changed in 150 years.

To me, Win8 is a bust! My wife has it on her machine and I have used it many times but I still takes me much lopnger to do a given task on Win8, than on win7, or even ( ugly) Vista.

Win8 boots faster seem to run smoother if you can find what you want

After setting up a Windows 8 system for my daughter I was left unimpressed. It is like they want to make your laptop or desktop into a tablet. I did read you can make Windows 8 feel like Windows 7. My desktop crashed recently and I spent a lot of time bringing it back to life so I didn't have to abandon XP. That said there were a lot of good reviews of Windows 8. Like the BORG say resistance is futile, XP won't be supported much longer and I will have to move on.
