Yes, it's a handful allright, $1400. If you really want it, though, buy before December 2, and you'll be able to get either the flash or the lens adapter thrown in for free.

I wonder if Oly cameras are actually easier to use than Canon or Nikon - I see many fewer questions about the use of the camera itself than for those two brands. Maybe that's why UHH gave you the impression you're the only one:-))

Once these cameras hit the stores here, I'm planning to go have a look, hoping they'll unpack one and let me hold it. Although I have had the E-5 for less than 3 years now and can't justify upgrading already.
I am glad that Olympus is apparently coming back after the embezzlement fiasco, but not too happy that it seems they are abandoning the 4/3 line. Although there were rumours earlier this year that an E-7 was in the works. We'll see.

There are a handful of us out there. As for the cost, I think my E-3 was going for $1600 new in 2008 or 2009. And, DP review thinks this IS the new E-7. I hope they are wrong.

Esther Thanks for the reply. REALLY--I was begining to think I was the olny OLY user out here.
The biggest problem I see with the new one is the sky hi price.

Another Olympus user here too ... bought my first Oly in 1978 and have never owned anything but. Recently bought the OM-D E-M5 and so far am loving it. Still use my old e-520 as a backup, and will likely sell my E-P2 now (never quite got the feel of it, and the focus was painfully slow at times).

Really looking forward to reviews on the new 12-40 "pro" m4/3 lens, and the longer zoom I hear is coming :)

Do any of you Olympians know of any Olympus camera classes anywhere in the Inianapolis area??? Alyn

You may want to call (or visit) Cord Camera -- at least two locations in the Indy area. The company's website says that it offers classes; whether any are Olympus-specific I do not know.

There is a Cord counterman at the Bloomington shop who uses an OMD. He showed it to me and allowed me to fiddle with it. It was beautiful!

I've been shooting with my OM-D for a few months and I LOVE IT! It's light, easy to use and a great performer.

Another Oly user here, since 1972 and the OM-1. Got the E-1 when it came out, and still have it. Have used most of the E body's in digital until the Mirrorless micro 4/3. Got the E-PL1 and shot that until getting the E-PL5. With Olympus, it's the creative feature count and the glass... superior glass.

With the 4/3 sensor, it's the reach... great for birding and wild life.

Have had foray's into CaNikon. Sony and Fuji Pro, including Full Frame.

But you know the saying of most Olympus users.

Once Olympus, Always Back!!!

Re: price.. its priceless. DPreview gave the OM-D EM5 Camera of the Year in 2012. This one will likely follow that trend.

Each new generation of mirrorless cameras gets closer to the quality of dslrs and this is another step. It will be interesting to see how the overall marketplace reacts to it. I have been a committed Oly user for 35+ yrs, but recently changed to Nikon -- primarily because I got frustrated with Oly's lack of response in addressing their low-light/high ISO performance issues. It will be interesting to see if this new venture addresses those issues. Definitely appears that Olympus is committed to the mirrorless technology for the future.

You are right, and I think Olympus introduced a camera here, that will be flying off the shelves. It will be a good seller, I think it's one of the best they have made in a long time. I had an Olympus a very long time ago, it was the LX, to me, that is one of the best cameras ever made.

I use Oly M4/3 too, even I am mainly Nikon DSLR user. I brought a Oly. Pen EPL-2 body and several lens adapters to use all my Nikon lenses plus an old Oly. legend, the Pen-F 42mm F1.2 which was given to me from my friend. I like the OM-D Em-1 too!

Roberts Camera is sponsoring Olympus demo days on October 4, 4, 5 and they have free Olympus classes on October 4 and 5. I live about 60 miles from Indy and would go to one of the classes except that I have another commitment both of those days.

It looks very interesting to me, however since I'm building a new house right now, I'll be holding off until they drop the price a bit, or until I can sell my e-5

Esther: Thanks for your suggestion. One of the class sites is Roberts photo---which is where I bought my cameras. My thought is that they are great salesmen but only mediocre
instructors. (I was a salesman --back in another life) I think I will play stupid (easy) and call in and ask about classes.
I am a big fan of Olympus cameras and talk about them on a moments notice. I've owned several, but my current model SP 800UZ, is so complicated; it does amazing work in spite of me. ALYN

I see that the number of Oly users is increasing-I, for one, (RobertW aka RobertTheWanderer) converted to an EP3 from huge Nikon kit, and now have the OMD as well,- happy with the Zuiko 12mmF2, the kitzoom for the OMD and two added pieces of long glass (the 70-300 is great)..so don't feel too lonely..

I'm 70 years old and have been a Nikon guy for all my life. Check this Micro 4/3 Camera and new lens out. Looks very impressive to me.

It's an exceptional unit and they're build like an armored tank. I have a E-PL5 and love it. The camera you're looking at and mine have similar features and the same sensor.

Watch the Olympus website store if you haven't bought it yet. From time to time they have a $50 to $100 off sale or sometimes a "buy this camera and get $150 off of a zoom lens for it" sale. When they're having a sale like that you'll be buying at less than the big internet stores sell it for.

Also read the history of 4/3 and micro-4/3 at the 4/3 consortium website. Panasonic and Olympus are the big players in the design and bringing 4/3 to fruition. It's interesting and they detail why they chose to create the 4/3 format and why it can match the image quality of most all crop sensor dSLRs, even those with higher resolution.

Been using Olympus since they came out with the e-500 back in 2007. I eventually look forward to owning this one.

As a long time Olympus fan - OM1/OM4ti - I really regretted moving over to Canon full frame when I couldn't get on with Olympus digital SLRs. Then I regretted moving to Canon when the sheer weight of the kit became a problem in the great outdoors.

So I'm now delighted with my OM-D E-M5. Very portable, even with the bonus handgrip and battery pack they're giving away in Europe - and the new one looks even better.

Be aware that Olympus has one of the most obscure menu systems I've ever seen. Hugely versatile, almost everything customisable - you can even change the direction you rotate the controls to increase/decrease aperture and shutter speed. But it can take quite a while to work out what's best for you, and an advanced degree in logic probably helps.

The new E-M1 may be better - more buttons so less deep down in nested menus, but what Olympus really need is some designers who actually take photographs.

If you buy this new one before December you get an adapter to 4/3 lenses, or a FL-300R flash thrown in - that's a $170 or $180 value.
