Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum.
Anyone out there know if it is possible to get flash power settings out of the saved metadata from a NEF, Nikon raw file? I'm just looking for if it was on TTL or manual and what the power setting was.
Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks.

P.I.E. from Picmeta does display the Nikon iTTL info if the flash was used for the image.

I just looked at Picasa - clicked on the properties on the right side of the screen, it gives all the Data, including if a flash was used.

Thanks MT Shooter.
That is an awesome program. Absolutely everything that you want to know about your photo.
Great answer.

Just about any decent imaging software does that.
You will find the information in both EXIF and IPC meta data as well as other that are proprietary and used by cataloging software.

Microsoft explorer can also be set to look at the EXIF data AND change it w/o having to open the file.

Rongnongno, are you saying you can get the exact power setting your flash was on? I have only ever seen (the programs I use anyway) tell you if the flash fired or not, but no detailed info. I'd love to know of one that does if it exists! Thanks for any info...

No, there is no way of telling the flash power. The metadata will only tell if the flash fired or not. In fact, there's no way that I know of to tell what power the flash used when in TTL mode. The only way is for you to use your flash in M and make a not of the setting.

Simply one of the BEST metadata programs is
PhotoME
http://www.photome.de/
AND - - there is NO COST !!
Dunno how they do that :)
If you do not find any Flash data in your EXIF with this program
then it has NOT been recorded by your camera and it does NOT exist !!
