Took some effort, but I dropped totally out of FB... Actually I never did fullfill the personel bit for my privcate info, but I always thought that it was a no-nothing site...
Why would I want to share my personal life with strangers or have any intrest in a stranger... Kept getting notices from people I DO Know, but why should I join a site to share info when they all have my email anyway...
No, FB as far as Im concerned is not for me...

Facebook is overrated and overused. I have never put any pics there. I am surprised how long this site has lasted, it is more like a huge spam web than a proper website.

I resisted using facebook for a very long time, but was finally convinced to give it a try. I was absolutely amazed at the results. My website had a tenfold increase in views, and I experienced a dramatic increase in calls to shoot photos. I don't really like facebooks terms, but it sure gets results. I do use a bold watermark on everything I post.

What is true? That FB is a for profit company, and anything you do or post on their site can be used at their discretion? Come on folks... this isn't news. FB's terms and conditions are no different than others in this space. You like Flickr? Check out their terms and conditions. Bottom line, if you don't want anyone to use your stuff, don't post it ANYWHERE on the Internet.

Good advice.

Then again, if you do post it and someone uses it just think you have been published!

mdorn is correct - I work in the internet industry and there is little to no privacy with any site you may post images on.

Even right here on UHH, the privacy policy states:

This website takes measures to protect its data that contains information related to you. However, as a consideration for viewing this site or interacting with this site in any manner, you waive all claims of any nature against this site concerning the loss, alteration, or misuse of information. You must assume that it is possible for your personal data to be obtained by others, such as "hackers," and used in an inappropriate manner that may cause you harm and that you agree that the site is not responsible for damages to you.

This doesn't mean UHH is purposely going to use your materials like facebook says they will. But like most sites, they're not going to be responsible for protection of your material should anyone want to steal it.

i do like flicker. as its allowed me to net work with other photographers/people around the world. as it was with FB. "tripled my client base" and here for that mater. i think we all understand that it can be hacked and stolen from any site. but for them to make the statement WE "FB" can use your info/images. means they WILL! and that is news! at least to any new photographers who would use the site to net work. and as for "sensitive material" what i putt up any where on the net. is no more then name, age, and how much coffee i drink. lol. to dismiss a social media like FB while building a business in this day and age. would be foolish to say the least. but the tracking of your browsing and all the rest that the link explains is a handy peace of info to have. some like FB. and some don't. but it is there. and it is important to know who your dealing with these days. i'll keep mine so i can chat with some nice people i've met as a result of it. ;{D

It's just a social network that people use it the way they want it. Unfortunately, we have many that use it in excess but we have the choice of hiding their posts or simply unfriend if we want. It works for me because it has increased the traffic in photo website. I just don't put any personal things in FB.

I was looking on line yesterday at band saws at Home Depot. Immediately an add for a band saw appeared on Facebook.

I don't do FB or Starbucks. One is invasive and the other tastes like burnt coffee beans. I think I would rather stick my head in a bucket of crap than imbibe either.

Abandoned FB 2 days after joining,a few years back. Only joined to please a relative----big mistake. When I found out there was almost no support, and some users had over 7 identities because they could not get support to fix a problem and had to create new identities to stay on FB. With the money generated there is no reason (other than greed)not to provide tech support. I didn't feel the need to have FB friends and hated the whole tell me your life story thing

Is there one we can use to notify the NSA in a similar manner? Much greater threat in my opinion.
