Annie, not sure by what you mean "cheap out" on printing. Most of my prints are 8x10 or standard size and Sam's does a good job, so why spend any more. Thanks for the tips on who to send them to.

Moose,

Annie has a point on "Cheap Out"; Sam's, WalMart, CostCo, Target, Office Depot, Office Max, K-Mart, and others who have in-house printing services offer cheap printing services.

These services print a standard sized image on a standard paper, with standard printers, and standard inks. Almost everything is automated, including the collection of the finished prints into a well stacked pile. Their point is to provide printing services at a cheap price, but that will not allow custom print orders.

If you need a print that is considered, "Out Of The Box", you must move "Out Of The Box" in your approach to printing images. Simply put you will need to find a local, professional, printing house, who can deliver customized prints to your order. Better yet, purchase your own Photo Printer (make it universal to print normal documents), and control all aspects of your printing needs.

With your own printer, connected to your PC, and using the image editing software you already own, you can control every aspect of your photography artistic creations.

I have created 8x8 images with black borders that I want to put in 8x8 frames. No matte as the black border will suffice. However, when I send it to the printer (Sam's Club) my options are only the standard sizes, like 8x10. As I said above, my image size is 8x8, which one would assume would be okay with an 8x10 print. However, the printer crops the picture so I only get a fraction of the border on the sides and nothing on the top. Can you folks help me? Is there another printer company that will print an 8x8? BTW, I use PSE 11 for my resizing efforts. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Moose, bottom line, there is no way this exact print will print as an 8x10, without distorting it. If you are reluctant to have it printed 'as is' on an 8x10 sheet, and TRIM it down, then another possibility would be to create a larger canvas behind it, and frame it accordingly to the size canvas you've chosen. Example posted, but of course you need to choose more complimentary colors. Just an alternate suggestion. Good Luck. Let us know which way you go, ok?

Thanks Linda. I'll have to do some more experimenting with PSE to accomplish what you have done. This a special project I'm working on that I wanted square images. BTW, off to Maine 9/1 and staying in Bar Harbor.

Here you go as 8x10. Why pay for 11x14? :) This was done in Picasa with the collage creation feature.

I'm surprised Sam's Club doesn't offer 8x8 as Costco does.

Thanks Armadillo. I have opened an account with H&H Color and have uploaded my images to them. Waiting for the results. Too expensive at this time to consider buying a good photo printer and the ink.

This may not be the answer you are looking for with your question, but I am curious as to why you would frame a photo that you are obviously proud of, without a mat. With no mat, the photo will be in contact with the glass. This usually results in a less than attractive look, and in many cases will result in damage to the print due to the print adhering to the glass. Why not consider using a good black mat board? (It would also also allow you to print the smaller portion of the image only, allowing you to trim the paper to fit).

Excellent reply and the same thing I was thinking. I would NEVER mount a print without a mat against glass/plexi.

It's Moose's image, not mine :) I just copied it into 8x10 background so it could be printed standard size, then trimmed to square.

Yes you can have "square" photos printed at almost any online printing service...I have several "square" prints which were done via Perfectposters.com They do excellent work at very reasonable prices...

On a 8x10 image size in PS, layer up a totally (same) black background as the base layer. Copy & Paste and center your image in a layer above. Merge the two layers as one, save as a tif and print it 8x10. Then trim the 1" on either end.
There should be no adjusting at the printer.

Don't change the image size change the canvas size using PSE to 8x10 then center the image on that canvas using the move tool then send it to the printer I think this will work as the printer will see the overall image as an 8x10 rather then 8x8

You save yourself a cut if you leave it on one side.
