Who the heck cares what camera maker has the most lenses????? ever heard of Sigma, Tamron, Tokina and others???? Gosh I am tired of people making this dumb argument!!!
Whoever used the word "most?"
Nikon shooters buy Nikon because of the lenses. Sigma, Tamron, Tokina? If you want third party lenses you don't need Nikon....buy a Sigma or Pentax.

Well folks, we are thrilled with he responses put foward. Mick borrowed my K30, and was thrilled wit the improvements in the AF area, compared to the iST that he has been using. The state of play is leaning towards the K30, although as I mentioned his father upgraded from K10 to K5 recently and the K10 might come his way as a temporary measure. I wondered though, why no one mentioned Canon USM lenses, My understanding is they would have exceptional focus response, where the Pentax system is quite clunky in comparison. Can someone enlighten me on this point? Maybe I under estimnate the old driveshaft systen or over estmate the motorised focus barrel system. Anyway, thanks so much for the valid ideas. Andrew

The end of the problem, the courier today delivered Mick's new K30. We all know it will be everything he dreamed of. Thanks to all who took the time to add their thoughts, I'll try now to get him to join up and contribute. I, on the other had, have partially defected and bought a used EOS 50D and a couple of lenses to play with, I still call myself a Pentax man but the Canon is mighty good, it's very interesting.
Best wishes all, ANdrew

I thought I'd update this. Mick is still using the K30. Me too, and just as much my Canon 50D when I go on an event. Mick is happy with he number of Keepers he is getting, god knows what the shutter count is now I know he can make over 1000 images on a good day. He recently covered a wedding, I loaned him my K30 so he would have two identical bodies, which worked well. I guess he knows the limitations of his gear and works with it rather than fighting it, and that is often the key to sucess. THanks to all who gave input. Andrew.
