I love Anhingas - Found this guy this morning

As I was driving through a local park, I found this wonderful Anhinga. He appears to be tagged so he was not in the least bit shy as I approached with my car. This is a male - I think the female is the more beautiful of this amazing species.

Thanks. It was shot in Boca Ciega Millennium Park, Seminole, FL. An amazing park in which I have seen every manner of wildlife from playing otters, coyote's to every kind of bird that makes an appearance in Florida. My interest in photography came about in that I usually ride my bike in there for quite a few hours every week and I kept seeing so many things that I thought would be wonderful to shoot. Such as this wonderful guy yesterday morning.

Thanks so much oldmalky and Mile. I'm just a newbie having gotten my camera a little over a month ago, but I practice very day and read a lot so I hope to be making some progress soon!

I am new too. I like the one you just posted. It's like their all posing for you fantastic shots. What kind of camera do you have?? Taking photos sure opens your eyes to new ways of looking at everything?

Isn't it amazing how you constantly find yourself looking for and composing shots once you take up photography? I bought a Canon T3i which I thought would be a good starter DSLR, but then I spent the money for a good lens, a Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6L USM IS. All these were taken handheld at 400mm and with the great image stabilization of the lens one can get away without using a tripod. Of course a tripod would probably add just that little extra sharpness shooting at 400mm.

What's aggravating is the missed shots once you get interested. For example, I was going through the park the other day with no camera and this guy had just caught a big fish and was jumping around on his perch dealing with it, flapping his wings, etc. It would have been an incredible series of shots. Of course I saw him flying with the fish also which I would have loved to have captured. Then there were two otters slowing crossing the road. I wish my camera was attached to me! :)

Good shots.
The anhinga is an amazing bird and you have ever seen one fish they are incredible.
It is probably my favorite bird action to photograph.

Wow, super shots!! I do see them all the time and I have seen them fish. I am amazed at how long they can stay under water. I saw two of them together in the water the other day, and they were staying underwater for like 25 seconds. Amazing birds. I also love the way they look when they fly as a retired airline pilot! :)
