The SX50 DOES have built in 3 shot HDR, plus bracketing capability to create your own HDR.

I stand corrected Wahawk, I based my comment on reviewing the online manual I found at Canon.com. Searching through their pdf manual, I found the AEB feature but did not find anything in the manual on HDR. I apologize.

Hey Gordon,
I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V that I never use: I'm into Panasonic (Lumix FZ200) and just bought a new Nikon D7100. I probably have shot 20 pictures with the Sony and it's just laying around. Its like brand new with original box and 16 Gb. card and extra battery. Check out its specs and get back to me.
If you can give me a good reason, I'll wrap it up and send it to you for free. I'm assuming that you will really use it and post pictures on the hog.

I have taken pix since 1953 and yes, I am still alive, had my own darkroom, etc. Went thru a no. of cameras and have used a Nikon D90 w/3 lenses but!!! when we go out for the evening, I take my wife's Sony Cybershot. I have been able to do almost as much with her pix - on a bit smaller scale - with good results in enlargements, etc. When you get serious, to me anyway, you need a camera and there are a no. of good ones but once a Nikon man - what else can I say other than we have been married for 56 years

HDR, as mentioned is heavily overdone, but as a means for widening dynamic range a bit, can be a sensitive and sane approach.

However, a friend of mine bought a Canon T4i with the shot in camera HDR. Surprise to me. On very static compositions, it seems quite nice.

On any dynamic subjects, even as fast as it can rip off 3 exposures and blend them HDR, it suffers from ghosting of the moving parts of the image. He showed me a picture of some ducks on a pond, floating serenely, and sure enough, even though the ducks are placidly floating on the water, each one has three heads, or the edges of three heads.

We've done some exploration, and my current feeling is that in camera HDR has missed the mark for dynamic shots, like children playing together or any action shots, sports, or whatever. Ghosting occurs in almost all motion areas, even at high shutter speeds.

I think I would not spend any money to get in camera HDR. The new canon T5i has upped the shots to 4 to blend, but does it do them any faster. Looks to me like in camera HDR is only viable for static subjects, like studio and table top, landscapes with no running water, and funerals where the subject is motionless.

Thought the offer of the free camera was considerate, but the topic struck me more on the issue of HDR. Nice to see people are generous.

Saichiez with all due respect any attempt at HDR on anything but a static subject is going to fail. It will fail for the reasons that you stated.

Just to let anyone here know, I'm not ignoring Otto's offer. I'm communicating with him privately.
And, yes, definately this is a very wonderful gesture that gives us all hope for humanity.

This is a generous offer for a very capable camera. It can probably do all you need and/or want using incamera controls. If finances are tight and you want to upgrade to a good "bridge" camera this is an offer not to miss!

You guys may have missed a point or two about HDR.
This being off topic here I would suggest you do some more research and read up.

As to the subject about otto's offer, maybe it will help others make some similar moves.
Not all moves will be good ones but a few may open up whole new wolds for some lesser fortunate folks ....hopefully ! :)

Gordon has said he appreciates my offer, but wants to get into HDR and timed exposures that this camera doesn't offer. I certainly understand this.
Is there someone out there that wants this camera for themselves or a young photographer. Just tell me about it.

+++ to you, Otto. You are a good person! Folks are taking notice of that and feeling GOOD, too. Thanks just for wording this offer to Gordon. It was a sincere and helpful gesture.
I am proud of you.

In passing....the more I see HDR pictures the less I like them, a great majority of them are overdone and many in the Photo Forum shoot in HDR as something natural to do.
It is useful sometimes and suits certain shots, but most of the time it's just Bling !

I like Bling!

Gordon, I don't get it. You cannot afford a Canon SX50, which is priced on Amazon at $379, free shipping. You are reluctant to pay $200 for a used Canon S95. Then Otto comes along and offers you a free Sony HX200V (also priced at $379 on Amazon), which is a darn good camera. And he even offers to pay shipping. And you turn him down because it does not have the exact features you want???? My gosh, this is great deal. Is it because it is not a Canon? Like I said, I don't get it. I think you should rethink this and take him up on the offer.
