I am wondering how long my distinguished colleges use a CF card before retiring it?
I have some that are 8-10 years old that I could still successfully use.
The ones I have been using for the past year or two get HEAVY use, and I mean heavy, and I've yet to have a problem or have a need to toss one yet.
I read on a web site that it is better for the camera (less wear and tear) to remove the data card and insert it into a card reader rather than connecting a USB cable to the camera. I've done it both ways. Any opinions?
I always put the card into the computer to download. Some say the cable is faster....it's also a drain on the camera's battery.
I have some that are several years old but RARELY use them because I buy the new ones that are bigger & faster because of the action shooting I do.

Looking at that big cat yawn, I see what you mean by action shooting. I guess Wildwood, NJ is well-named.
That tiger is from our free Cape May county Zoo.
Thanks for all the replies. I just had an 8gb cf fail after 6mos. use. SanDisk brand. So I was wanting some input from others. I, too, have some that have been used for a year or more of heavy shooting. Thanks again.
