Attitude! When I go out with my camera, if only for a short walk, I believe in my mind that I am a Great Photographer. This attitude keeps me focused and confident. Any great athlete has to think like this before he steps on the field. Granted, most times I don't produce "Great" Images, but the 'Effort" is made on every outing. Attitude...You must have the right Attitude. Another thing: Have you ever heard of "Paralysis by Analysis? Well we all get it. At times (I think more often than not) we all critique our own work unfairly, in that we are too close to our own work. One never sees oneself as others do, and I think this is true of all our work at times. Just my 2cts worth. Thanks, Boone

Once you become completly satisfied with your work, you will not get any better. Disatisfaction will make you strive to get better.

This is a great quote. There is always a better shot or more interesting one that will show up in the next photo--hopefully.

Maybe your feelings about yourself, have little to do with photography at all? I too can have negative feelings about a variety of things in life. But one thing that pulls me out of a rut, is to immerse myself in the act of picture taking, trying to create the best images I can with whatever subject at hand. I take my time, really think about what I'm doing, composing, exposure, focus, depth of field, camera movement, contrast, etc.. become emotionally involved with my subject and it's composition in my viewfinder, then hitting the shutter and capturing it.
That's what I love most about photography.
Skill can play little part in this activity, it's the act of doing that's most enjoyable, seeing the results of my efforts is almost secondary. Heck, when I shot film, it might have been months before I saw the results. Maybe narrow Your focus, concentrate on one type or style for awhile, don't try to master too many things, don't worry about skill level or the type of equipment you have, just experience the practice of photography and maybe You will be able to rekindle your enjoyment when You start to get down on Yourself.

Yes, every time I look at the photos that members display here. Whenever I take what I think is a nice shot and do some processing on it, I see the work posted here and realize mine isn't all that great.

On the plus side, I enjoy taking pictures, and I know there is room for improvement. If I could afford a really expensive camera, I know my photography would improve tremendously. :D

Exactly jerry, think what we could do if we could get our hands on the Hubble telescope...

"Close up of a blue jay from outer space"

I do it for fun...nothing more nothing less...

good god it's a good thing I didn't post my today pics, they were awful and I was trying out my new lens! Things have to get better as I heal. I just had bi lateral knee replacement and hiking up to where the horses were was really painful.

There is one other aspect. If you like the photo, that's all that counts.
I've seen technically poor photos that people cherish dearly. They remind someone of place, an activity, or a loved one. Photographs captured moments in our lives that we would like to hold on to.
