Subject of competition is "Life on the Great Lakes." We are on the east shore of Lake Huron so there will be lots of sunset pics etc. But I wanted something different, so took this Sat. July 13 from Cheboygan Mich. Please give me your thoughts?? No PP, just cropping. Shows at least 2 kinds of life, IMO. Thanx for your comments. Dave
Silhouettes in Lake Huron Sunrise
Hard to tell exactly because of the shoreline, but it looks like your horizon line that I see on the lake one the left side is askew, tilting down to the left. You will need to rotate your photo clockwise to compensate, then crop the excess where it shows.
Also, I think the flora in the foreground keeps the viewer from entering the photo paychologically--a kind of wall or barrier. I would crop it out if possible, or as much as possible. Otherwise a pretty photo.
My only thought is to straighten your horizon.

Very nice. My only comment would be that I'd trim/crop the bottom of the photo a little. There are some straight buds sticking up from nowhere on the right bottom. If those were gone there would be a little less plant life that distracts the eyes from the sky and ducks and the plant life would reside in one third of the shot. Otherwise, go for it! I agree about the leaning horizon too.
It's actually a very beautiful photo but the horizon is crooked. I think I might have cropped out the foreground or cloned it out.

Two versions..one with the horizon straightened and the other cropped...
I think I like your original version best David but with the straighten...the plants in the foreground add depth for me...
The original, just with the horizon corrected is VERY good IMHO!
I did a fix / adj straightened the horizon .. I know you said no PP . but I think a minor reduction adjustment to the bush opens the ducks swimming, to be more eye catching .. Just my opinion . but over all love the photo .

other than a slight tilt to the left the photo is very nice.
beautiful colors and leaving the foreground in tack was the right move. Not sure if it is me or what, but it looks to me there is some noise going on especially in the water.

Reminds me of family vacations when my kids were young. We would rent a cabin at Eddies Cottages about 5 miles west of that shot.
Lovely shot, but straighten the horizon slightly, and crop the bottom.

Straighten the horizon, and PERHAPS crop some off the bottom. I wouldn't crop out all the foliage, it gives depth to the photo. Beautiful color.
I agree with a little crop of the foilage but not all of it. Obviously straighten horizon as everyone else has said.
I also felt there seems to be noise in the water?
Beautiful photo otherwise. Good luck.
