What I have glommed from the various forums is that there are a lot of politically passionate people from both sides of the bench out there. May I suggest that since most of us are photographers, we start a category of political photographs (preferably that members have shot) that depict our political beliefs?

I believe the adage "A picture is worth a thousand words" would be applicable.

Maybe you should stipulate that one can only post photos portraying the side of the aisle that they lean towards.

Otherwise this will only be a "bash" fest.

Excellent point....thanks.

Do you think this is a realistic exercise, or am I pipe dreaming? I would love to see the photographs the group takes. I have seen enough humming birds, macros of flowers and insects, to last me a lifetime.

I know it is a "new" genre for most, but I would think it would transcend the "bash fest" mentality.

Thanks again.

You have a good idea, but, what may happen is some of the zealots may copy and past political images from their favorite radical blogs. This is already done in the Chit Chat section. Doing so would probably destroy the intent of your idea. But hey, you never know until you try, so if you handle potential frustration well, go for it.

Sigh...I know you're right. I guess I've become somewhat of an optimist in my old age.

Being an optimist is the way to go, so long as it's tempered by a touch of realism (not pessimism). It's good having a smile on your face most of the time. :D

I have actually been thinking about doing a series of fine art photographs with political content. Can't promise I wouldn't "bash" the other side though. Bashing is a bit of a strong word, however.....pointing out their blatant disregard for our freedom and rights as individuals is more my point. I'd like to see where this goes...

I believe that is one of the attitudes that starts wars or at the very least mud-slinging.

No thanks. It's counter productive. All it would do is cause more animosity. jmo

You have a great idea, and a valid point. But alas, it would do nothing but transcend into a "us against them" mentality like it always does. Then the political bashing and name calling would begin. It's a lose/lose situation. But, keep your mind ticking and your finger clicking!

It's just that I would rather look at a photograph, even if it depicts an opposite political viewpoint of my own, than read all this personal mudslinging....though I suppose some of the members could sling mud with a dslr.
