I think the slope of the background lends a feeling of off balance to the action of the skate board rider. I would not straighten it.

Thanks David for your comments I TOTALLY agree!!!! BUT I'd really like to add, this photo was not photoshopped in any way... I have access to a son that does lots of skateboarding and thus I can capture great shots of him doing so!

I am not an expert in detecting photo-alteration, but look at the pant seems they show the same "altered pixels." It looks as though this occurs at all edges when magnified.

Sorry Maggie, I think you misunderstood my comment. I was indicating that I saw what "a-friend" thought evidence of "photo-alteration" in parts of the photo that were obviously not altered, ie. the pants seam. In other words I did not think you manipulated the photo. I guess I was not sufficiently clear. Anyway, very nice photo, hope to see more of your work. Hope your son keeps landing well. Best Wishes.

Mediocre and poor images never create this much discussion and opinions.I believe it is an exceptional image, taken with skill and creativity. AS many have noted, the sloping background is not distracting and may add to the dynamic image. Conversion to B&W improves the image in my opinion. If you had the photoshop skills to alter the image to get this result, I would say-Go Girl !- but you've proven you did not.
Please don"t let this' trail by fire' dissuade you from posting more of your work. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Well done, Maggie; the picture tells a story, the next sentence of which is "Ouch". Excellent story-telling!

Maggie...Those of us who have worn jeans know what the seams look like. My daughter did an ink wash in high school of a photo that included jeans and the seams and they looked just like this and it was very realistic.

I really like it. The BW really makes it pop as a photo. Did you use a flash? What lens did you use?

In my opinion, this is image is a foreboding of several contusions & abrasions.
