I have a Tamron AF 28-200mm f 3.8-5.6 for Nikon. It can be found on Amazon under used lenses for Nikon. $199.

It's safer for us to buy though Amazon but I live in Florida and you can check me out on this site too if you want to purchase another way.

Hi there. Have you considered looking at "used" lenses and gear? Try looking thru the section on "used" at b&h photo. They have a great selection in great condition. I really don`t like to advertise brands or companies, unless it`s a specific question regarding a product, company or service, but I feel this little bit of info may be able to help. Good luck!

1) My GUESS is that lens prices in Thailand will be no cheaper than in the USA. I travel globally on a regular basis and I have found that the NYC-based camera stores (Adorama, B&H, etc) and Amazon consistently have the best prices and don't charge sales tax for out of state shipments. By comparison Nikon prices in Japan and Hong Kong are higher and Europe often has a 1.5x price difference.

2) With telephoto lenses for action wildlife (birds in flight) I believe to a large extent you get what you pay for. I bought a used Nikon 600mm f/4 VR on ebay. It is sharp and fast focusing and but is also large, heavy & pricey.

3) My wife uses a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR 11 with a Nikon 2x teleconverter on her D7000. This works well.

4) We have a Sigma 50-500 which is less expensive, hand holdable and has a great zoom range. It works very well for wildlife although it does not focus quite as fast as the Nikon lenses above.

5) I think a fast shutter speed is key to hand holding for birds in flight. I try to stay above 1/2500 sec and prefer 1/5000 if possible.
Perhaps your problems with your existing photos could have be minimized at faster shutter speeds (assuming enough light to do so). The newer "low noise at high ISO" cameras and lenses with larger apertures (f/4 or better) make shooting at fast shutter speeds with rapid focusing more practical.

Please forgive a crochety ex-editor----BUT Please use your spell-checker and your grammar checker.Yur spelin is relli, rilli, turabull!. an yer grammer isnearly as bad. Your pictures were fine! I always recommend an Olympus UZ Camera: light-weight, has the longest telephoto available (?) 36X on a camera. And, it is small and has many programs and settings. :-) ALYN

Consider the Tamron 18-270. If you want pro glass then buy from your cameras manufacture. This Tamron is a GREAT walk around lens.

I have this lens and love it.

My two favorite lenses are the Sigma 15mm and Sigma 18-200mm AF OS zoom. The zoom has a variable f stop and in low light, I have to use a tripod for telephoto shots. Awesome lens and can be bought online (eBay) for about $300. I like mine so much, I bought one as a gift for a fellow photographer.

why not a 2x converter?....for the 300 mm...

Because his lens would go from f5.6 to f9 or even higher. And it probably would not autofocus .......

What you need it a 500mm f/4 lens. Also, save your money and get a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod and a Wimberly gimbal head. You'll need about $9,500 to get that stuff. When shooting birds flying, you need to shoot by hand. That takes some practice and you might want to lift some weights. Your lens and camera will weigh in excess of 10 lbs. But you can't get diving birds very well on a tripod. Almost all the nature photographers use a 500mm f4 lens. It's the largest lens that can still be hand held but has such great glass as to get those shots that could make magazines. Good luck

Maybe you should consider a tele-converter for the lens you already own. I know the kit lens may not be the greatest optical lens, so you might want to replace that also.

Re hand held lenses - I use a Sony A900 with a built in anti-shake feature. With this feature I can use the Minolta AF 500mm mirror lens.

Let's please not start this up again. This is a photograqphy forum. We are here to share and to learn about photography. I'm sure that there's a spelling and grammar forum somewhere that I could go to if that was my interest. He got the point of the question out.
I'm starting to feel reluctant about posting anything myself because I feel like I'm at work and everything is getting proofread.
