Here's a try at what I think you might be looking for?? Like everyone said... the original was very blurred.

Good Luck

Excellent job !! How did you do that?

Thanks for the kind words... I used a few Topaz tools and Photoshop's scratch removal... a few iterations with different areas of picture. Then, I blended in the mountain using Photoshop.

First of all, neither of these two attached photos was taken by me. A friend of mine sent them to me in the hopes I could improve the quality of the first photo. Due to my limited capabilities in PP I have been unable to accomplish this.
The first photo is the one that he wishes to improve and is a photo of the Destroyer Cogswell in Tokyo Bay in 1945. His brother was serving on the ship at the time. He sent the second photo to show how he wanted Mt Fuji, in the background, to look in the first picture. He wishes the mountain to be more distinct.
Any help you magicians in here can furnish would be greatly appreciated by both me and my friend. I have uploaded the photos as he gave me. If anyone is curious and googles the USS Cogswell you will find the ship had an interesting war history. Thanks for your time and consideration.

The USS Cogswell (DD651) was a Fletcher Class Destroyer. It was is WWII, Korean and Vietnam. It has since been transferred to the Turkish Navy. There was a good color pic of the ship in Wikipedia. I tried to PM English Wolf a pic to work with, Hope it helps.

For Those Interested:

I've never used it but Topaz has a plug-in called "In Focus" that might clean up the origional photo. After that the background could be worked on.

http://www.topazlabs.com/infocus/

It works in Photoshop, Photoshot Elements 5.0 & up. Plus a few other editing programs too.

They also have a free 30 days trial.

Here's my try. Done in Photoshop, Converted color shot to Greyscale, copied ship on top of fuji shot, removed ship's sky, cleaned it up with clone tool and eraser.

After you hit the reply button you will see the main box for text and three slots underneath for picture/file attachments. To the right of those slots are tabs saying choose file. Select that tab and a menu will come up allowing you to choose the file from your computer. Keep in mind that if you hit the preview button the file will be booted. The preview is for text only. If the tabs for choosing the files are "grayed out" something is amiss, such as trying to upload photos from an IPad which at present cannot be done. Hope this helps.

These are very fun images for me, as I have been there many times. Although, not in 1945 and not on a "Tin Can", that was my father and my uncles. My time was the early sixties on Aircraft Carriers.

The first image is tough, there really isn't much to work with here; however, I gave it a shot. The second image was bit better to work with.

Here are my quick results.

Here's my attempt. I replaced Mt. Fuji from the color shot. I wasn't sure how you might want to cropped it, if you like it.
