Hey guys and girls, I 'm not trying to stir up trouble, but I am curious as to your thoughts on obama and his 100 MILLION dollar vacation and at the same time is furloughing the people at WRHospital. To me, it shows much disrespect to the wounded warriors and to the American taxpayers and why can't congress deny him of such an extravagant vacation by placing a ceiling on the dollar amount that can be spent on vacations? Next week I am going to have to send the treasury approximately 33,000$ for capitol gains and it scares the hell out of me how they will waste the money.
Hey guys and girls, I 'm not trying to stir up tro... (show quote)

Yes you are. Trying to stir up trouble. Otherwise why would you cut into someone's post with a completey unrelated comment.
Oh I know...That's the only way you can get your jollies off.

Crwiwy, I wasn't intentionally trying to muddy the waters by posting under this segment, but there wasn't another discussion to place it under and because he was a veteran and obama is furloughing the people at WH hospital and taking a vacation I thought it would be ok. sorry. Jimmy

So, you could not open a new subject? That's a very piss poor excuse.

This is a very good article - BUT - hunters and target shooters are doing this all over the country every day.
with my 1,000 yard Elk Buster aka .300 Akly Improved I could do this quite often on the range. also with my later 7mm magnum. As well as bring down my deer at extreme distances.
It don't take a sniper to be a good long range shooter.

The cartridge might help out on long-range shots, but hunting shots are generally accomplished off hand. Are you saying you get off successfull 1000 yd hits without a rest if some sort?

Woops - You don't know much about long rang-open country hunting - a good amount of practice with various cartridge loads and bullets as well as shooting positions and rifle supports are needed for these hunts and successful shots - I have missed far fewer than hits from being prepared for these hunts.

I notice he used a Remington 700.
I have one for sale, if anyone is interested.

Mine was a 7mm Remington magnum - reached out there real good.
one mule deer in the high Sierras - 8,500 ft - it took 20 min to walk to it over rough but open sage brush and rocks. Shot resting my rifle on a rock cushioned with my hunting jacket.

Actually I know quite a bit about long-range open country hunting from growing up shooting and hunting in No. CA and other western states. Not quite like the Sierras, I'm sure, but still pretty challenging. Your post didn't specify how your 1000 yd shots were accomplished that's why I posed the question. Cartridge loads alone don't tell a shooter very much. Thanks for clarifying the need for rifle supports to pull off a successful shot.
