He cut them because of the sequester, the cuts he made were the most public possible and designed to be upsetting to the American people, he is punishing the American people, he is a petulant man.

As I said in my intro, except for the political BS this is a pretty cool site. Just remember that most of the news people are paid by the word, they can't go up there and say nothing and they think the more controversy they foment will help them. Listen to NPR and you can avoid much of it. This from a guy who used to be in the GOP, now independent. Don't trust or believe either end of the spectrum.

I agree - most likely a waste of money. But this same story comes up with every president. Only the names and locations change. Moving on...

Oh yeah...just because it was too expensive for other presidents lets continue to do it...Lets move on....Moving on is part of the problem here...We need to quit accepting these types of expenditures and not just ignore them. I believe the article said it was at least as expensive as the Clinton trip...but could reach in the 100s of millions.

Did you bother to read the entire article or just the headline? It will cost about the same as the Clinton trip or any other Presidents trip to Africa.

Of course Africa a continent rich in natural resources is not too important to you. I wonder why?

Echoing dementia.

You gave a great response to someone who is obviously unfairly bias. Thank you.

Our troops in Afganistan have been cut back to ONE hot meal a day instead of three. They have been told to eat MREs when coming off a long shift. Ammo has been cutback and rationed. (They are not supposed to be shooting at the people trying to kill them, anyway.)
They can't get parts for repairs to equipment and they don't have adequate personal armor. But, there is plenty of money for another lavish vaca....this time it is to a dung hole. No wonder they need an entire medical team and a floating hospital to go with them. I imagine they will take fifteen chefs to cook, and all their own steaks and lobster.
Probably thirty personal slaves will be going to dress, coif, and manicure
moochey, as well. Then, the hundreds of security individuals and multiple limos, helicopters, SUVs, and jet fighters. Can you imagine the impressive image this show of force and power will give these backward people. "The conqueror has returned with all his pagentry!"

They've been cut back to three hot meals instead of four. The midnight hot meal has been cut out. Get your facts right before you start ranting.

We had midnight rations frequently in Vietnam, and if the mess hall was open it was a good social occasion at shift change. If it wasn't open, we still had C-rations or K-rations and somehow managed to survive.

We played a variety of poker with the dates on the cans of C-rations. I was in Vietnam in 1969 and 70, and the oldest C-rations I had were ham and eggs canned in 1938. Since I'm still here, I've got to assume that they weren't spoiled too badly.

I think it's amazing how these inflammatory stories get bandied around. I also wonder what the TRUE cost of making this type of trip?

When I say true cost I am comparing the fixed and variable costs of this trip. Because lets face it, the country would still be paying for teh Aircraft carrier, all of teh security personnel, security vehicles etc, whether teh President was in Washington, or in Africa.

I have no doubt that the countries being visited will be picking up some of the security and accommodation costs, but granted, they won't pay for the fuel for aircraft or ships.

I'm no accountant or government official, I'm not even an American citizen, but I wouldn't mind betting that the actual (variable) cost in more likely in the low millions.

Having said that, I wouldn't mind that money in my bank account.

I don't know where you got your info. There is no breakfast served. Sometimes it is twelve hours between meals. The fourth meal you must be referring to was a cold sandwich bar, which is no longer offerred. There are only two meals a day to be supplemented by MRES. Why do you feel that it is okay not to provide adequate nourishement for our warriors.
Families at home are sending food to the troops.

As for your Vietnam stories, non-sequitur!

I notice that you did not address the rest of the inadequate support our troops are receiving.

We can just borrow $100 Million for another lavish vaca our military be damned. It must sound "reasonable" to you.

You can be assured that the government never "under estimates costs!" If they will admit to $100 Million you can bet it will be more.
