Months ago, I had a strange issue at work. I was in the bathroom, washing up--a good friend was treating me to lunch(prime rib!)
I noted that my vision was not quite 'right' It felt as if I were wearing someone's glasses and everything was slightly distorted. I didn't dwell on it as my friends were waiting.

When I got to the cafeteria, I started to feel winded, and pretty much lost my appetite. I still forced myself to eat a bit. But I started pouring sweat and felt suddenly weak.
Two of my friends walked me back to the office and I collapsed in the hall. The ER doctor, after loudly proclaiming that I had a history of anxiety, pretty much left me alone.
Should have seen the look on her face when they discharged me and I got all pale and sweaty.

Weeks go by with but a single repeat--this time I hid in the bathroom until it passed to avoid another wasted day in the ER.

Eventually these sorts of episodes progressed to once a week, three times a week, once a day.... Until now, Where the altered vision portion may kick in at 8:00 AM and stay with me until noon.
Weakness and sweating(and the occasional fall) are quite common and can happen at any time:When joking around with friends, walking, driving, eating.
At home, my 13 year old son does my heavy lifting. A friend at work does it for me there.

Fed up with the way things were going, the wife brought me to Urgent care. I collapsed in the hall and they put me on the EKG. They saw something that made them order a 24 hour Holter monitor.

Took a turn for the worse, got pneumonia to go on top of everything else. So if I'm not a work, I pretty much in bed. I'm making cookies with my kids today so I'm pushing myself a bit--and am feeling it for real.

And my poor camera....I guess I should take the batteries out. No church events, no birthday parties and no more pictures of my kids.

Doesn't sound good.

So what is your prognosis, according to the doctors?

hlmichel, that is one heck of a sad story. Sure hope the cause is found and you get it fixed so that you can start taking pictures again. Please keep us posted. :-(

Doctors are completely clueless about this. They have done test after test and they all turn up nil.
The Holter monitor showed premature heartbeats--not a life-threatening issue by itself, but sometimes a symptom of something more serious.

I am meeting with my doctor next week to see what the next steps are.

Thank you.
I'm looking forward to my return to photography. But now, the D3000 is sometimes too heavy for me.

I'm awfully sorry to learn of your dilemma, Henry. I sure hope your doc can come up with some ideas to resolve the problem. Be very careful in your daily activities, it's so easy to take a fall that may be serious. I'll keep you in my prayers, if it's okay with you.

Get yourself to one of the med schools. CA has some great ones and get a proper diagnosis.

Sounds like they ignored cardiac cause at first, then later did a work up with EKG and 24 holter monitor with minimal remarks. Did they do full blood work up? You said you have a history of anxiety, it could be a progression into panic attacks. They can give the feeling of a heart attack, but are not life threatening. I have worked in emergency medicine and would be willing to help you out with questions and concerns. Let me know, I am here for you. Take care.

My suggestion would be to get another doctor or at least get a second opinion from another doctor outside the medical community you live in. Apparently you have something going on.

sounds like the same things that was going on with me. from 1989 to 1996. I became a hermit because of these problems. stress then anxity then full blown panic attacks. I kept thinking I was dying until I found a doctor and a pyschogist that worked togather with me it took awhile but the results were great. you might want to see if there is someone in your area that works with anxiety. I know when I was going thru it I just knew it was something bad. I am still kicking myself that I didn't seek the right help out in 1989 I wasted alot of years. (my panic attacks was as described:cold sweats, blurry vision, heart racing, heart skipping beats that I could feel, dizzness, passing out or the fear of passing out, shaking, and shortness of breath) Take a look at how much stress may be in your life right now family, work and social. But also make sure it is nothing phyiscal by visiting your medical doctor. Don't waste anymore of your life let someone help. by the way one of the things I did was shooting photos to calm me down. You teach your body to relax and hold steady just like shooting a gun at a long distance. take your camera out and shoot and relax and let everything else go away for awhile. It worked for me. ps my ekg and monitor showed PVC (premature contractions) nothing to worry about still have them no big deal.

I occasionally have similar symptoms except for the vision part. The pouring sweat, nausea and passing out with me is due to low blood sugar. For some reason, and the doctors do not know why, it drops suddenly and the "thing", as I call it, happens. It is a terrible feeling no doubt. They checked my heart, arteries for clogging and just about everything else and nothing showed up. Thankfully it gives several minutes of warning otherwise it would be extremely dangerous. Sometimes it passes before getting to the profuse sweating stage but sometimes it runs it's course. When I feel it coming on I down something with sugar, juice works best, and it begins to help the symptoms fairly quickly.

I hope they find out what it is. If possible have them draw blood when it happens and check for glucose level. I have a hunch will be very low.

Sorry to hear you are ill, a second opinion is called for always, when things continue for any length of time. It could be allergies, try changing you diet completely and see if it helps. Try an allergist for tests. All the chemicals in the food today are creating problems for many people. Lots of luck.
