I see your point, just had to see a real situation like you mentioned. So even though the subjects would be different in each shot, they would ALL need the same basic adjustments, which makes sense, and much easier in LR. I'll have a real test in a couple of weeks with a wedding I'm doing. I'll let you know how it works out....thx...:)
Been using the Lightroom 5 Beta since it 1st came out. Really like it. It is a standalone program that can do all the basic adjustments. It is a RAW processor and essentially the same as ACR in CS 6. You can do most things you want in PP with it. The new tools are wonderful. Lightroom is not for composites or layer or masking work but it can be a front end to CS6 etc. Nik etc make plug in for LR.
I went through the same Beta Test process LR3 to LR4. When the time to pay up comes all the work done in 5 will be integrated with my material in 4.
I don't like Adobe's moving to the cloud concept for CS series. This does not affect LR or Elements at this time.
When I began my part of this discussion with
"Jerry, I want to get LR4 but have a simple/beginner question. I do not use PhotoShop. MUST I use PhotoShop to use Lightroom? My intent is to use Lightroom for ingesting/cataloging photos. Not PP. Thanks for any help."
it was my intent to get LR4 for organizing my Nikon photos, NOT post processing. But after reading this example from rpavich I may change my mind. This actually answers more questions than I intended to ask. I'm going to get LR4 as soon as I get through with this HS graduation season. (If it ever ends)

No...he's an educator. He shoots a wide variety of things...he just got back from shooting aboard an aircraft carrier....
[quote=jerryc41]You get what you pay for. :D
Jerry please do a wire transfer of 5K and I will a authorization for you to try the free beta down load. That's real value.

That's why they call you the 'Gifted One'! Seriously, that's a great deal. I imagine the deals on Lightroom 4 are going to get better and better as we get closer to Lightroom 5 release. I, for one, am looking forward to getting the released version of LR5. I seem to do more and more of my processing in LR4 than I do in Photoshop CS6. I do almost all of my color/tone/dynamic range and exposure type processing in LR. Photoshop is primarily used for anything that requires the 'content aware' functionality and cropping. In my opinion, the CS6 cropping tool is very powerful if you take advantage of all its capability.

Seriously this Adobe thing rather pushed me. I was convinced that I needed Lightroom. I listened to talk a respected Pro did for high school journalism students sometime ago. His advice buy Lightroom 3, that was the most current. I want the 4 then my computer went down. I don't want to be with out LR as for the great possibilities that it presents. The worse case is that I get to up grade. Adobe may just pull everything off the self.
Does anybody know if LR5 will work with XP
Heard somewhere that LR4 doesn't so wondered about LR5
Thank you

It doesn't.
Am I to understand that neither LR4 nor LR5 will work with Windows XP???
