Your snake story made me laugh, because my wife is the same way. She is terrified of any snake. Any time we get a bullsnake in the yard, I try to catch it and move it away. If I'm not home, she will blast at them with my 12 Gauge. She never knows if she kills them, because she closes her eyes when she shoots, then runs into the house and locks the door.
Don't be so easily run off. You summoned enough courage to face that snake in person, so whats so bad about a few rude comments. You can handle this.

You can't run away from life. Not everyone is considerate or accepting of others so we all have to deal. Don't be an ostrich - good luck!

I have never understood why anyone feels compelled to publically announce they are leaving the forum.
You no longer wish to participate? Stop looking at the forum and stop posting. Simple.
Or is it because you want everyone to rush in and beg you to stay?

Plus, what if in a month or so you change your mind and want to start posting again? Well now it's too late, you have burned a bridge and cancelled your membership.

Plus in this specific case I have never understood why not liking or being afraid of a creature such as a snake automatically means the creature must be destroyed. That behavior is sick in my view.
You don't like it? Go back in the house and leave it alone, it will be gone in a short time anyway. Why the need to kill it?

Some people are afraid of birds. Some people are afraid of butterflies. (it's true, look it up) So does that mean they should all be killed?

Thanks Guys, for all your positive remarks and helpful info. As for the others, they have been rather ugly about expressing their opinions, which I found to be rude and insensitive. I explained I have a phobia about snakes (don't even like the word) and took the pics in spite of that in order to share with the group. That's how much I have loved this forum. Unfortunately, they have ruined it for me and I have asked to be removed from the membership, but they are having difficulty doing that, so it gives me the oportunity to thank all those who have been so helpful to me in finding my way through DSLR photography thus far.As for those who are so strongly opinionated that they can't see past their own noses, and feel they must berate others to let it be known-I won't miss you and hopefully will be able to grow into a decent photogropher without ever having to encounter your ilk again. Good bye!

The hedgehog is like any other internet forum...it's a mish-mash of good opinions and bad...good advice and bad...those who can take it and can't.

Anytime humans are involved it tends to make forums a messy place...just like real life.

I guess whenever I see people getting all upset over what's said here I can't help but think...."gee...we aren't curing cancer or anything...this is a freaking internet photo forum for crying out loud.."

Sheesh.

Try megashot.net There are a lot of professional people there thet will give you the guidance you seek with out the drama. It takes a little getting use to in finding your way around but it is a place of helpful people that do not feel the need to make others feel bad to make themselves feel good. (There are not many of those here but the few that are definitely make them self known.)

Seriously? I comment on a post that snakes are beneficial, and then I comment on one reason I dislike cats. The embodiment of pure evil I am. I have enjoyed snakes all my life. Used to breed large snakes(Burmese Pythons). Different colors, different patterns. Fact...I like snakes! Fact...you like cats! To each their own. Btw...I've owned cats as pets. Variety is the spice of life!

ph0t0bug...Don't listen to JR1...He takes any opportunity to jump on somebody when he can. I have read your other thread as well, Bad Photo Good Story. Again, you've run into a few jerks that just have to speak their mind in an ugly way. Somehow cats have all of a sudden gotten a bad rep. and people say all kinds of ugly things about them. I had cats for years and never saw a rat as long as I did. We also had Mockingbirds galore and they knew exactly what a cat was. Don't let these jerks run you off. You've posted photos on here and enjoyed the cameraderie. Don't leave because on one bad experience.

I've never read or participated in a public forum or blog that didn't require a bit of tolerance for rude and nasty comments. It may be that those kinds of environments are just not your cup of tea.

Many, many thanks to all you kind and caring people. Your encouragement means so much to me!
I did not post my comments to have people "beg" me to stay. I posted them so that those who can't seem to be considerate of the rest of us would know that it's not appreciated and they are degrading the forum.
Also I DID NOT KILL A SNAKE, my husband did and I'm glad he did, not only for me, but AS I STATED he didn't want them hanging from the rafters in the garage. I don't think I need to defend myself or him for that. Also I stated that I KNOW THEY ARE BENIFICIAL. OK?
It doesn't make a bit of difference to me if other people are insanely wild about dirt or anything else. I have never put down a soul for what their interests are.
It was totally the rudeness that upset me, as well as a few other people's that upset me and made me want to find a new home for my interest. What I am seeing now is that the nice folks her vastly outweigh the rude ones. I think you can see that by the posts here.
As for JR1, he realized long ago that his words were not coming across well, and I believe he has made every effort to let us all see his softer side. I applaud him for that.
