I have already posted this with my post from yesterday, "Bad photo, good story", but have decided to post in this section so that all can read it. If you are wondering what brought it on, look at my previous post.
Thanks Guys, for all your positive remarks and helpful info. As for the others, they have been rather ugly about expressing their opinions, which I found to be rude and insensitive. I explained I have a phobia about snakes (don't even like the word) and took the pics in spite of that in order to share with the group. That's how much I have loved this forum. Unfortunately, they have ruined it for me and I have asked to be removed from the membership, but they are having difficulty doing that, so it gives me the oportunity to thank all those who have been so helpful to me in finding my way through DSLR photography thus far.As for those who are so strongly opinionated that they can't see past their own noses, and feel they must berate others to let it be known-I won't miss you and hopefully will be able to grow into a decent photogropher without ever having to encounter your ilk again. Good bye!

I don't know you phOtObug but why let a few bad apples ruin the beautiful tree? You can shake the bad apples off and have a picnic with the good ones.

GrandmaJoy, I would love to continue here, but have seen others berated as well, and it bothers me more to see someone else put down than myself. Mostly I don't like to see this photography forum turned into a soapbox that has nothing to do with photography. I'm sure that's not why it was created. I've seen many photos and read many comments about things I strongly disliked but simply moved on to another page and let others deal with it. I'm tired of doing that, and I think it's getting worse. I'd like to find a helpful forum with good photography information where I can learn and grow without such nonsense.

Or just a poor excuse to leave on, causing more friction that is not needed

bye

I think you should stay. Don't let just a few remarks stop you from enjoying UHH.

Plus, I must confess: I've killed my share of snakes. I've even skinned some, and preserved and mounted the skins. Some I hunted in the Florida swamps, others were found in our backyard.

Not at all JR1. Just tired of having to weed through such nonsense to get to badly needed helpful information. BTW, you have provided a great deal of help for me and I'm sure everyone else.

It's a terrible shame to lose you here and I commend you highly for facing your phobia to share the photo's with us,that took a lot of courage and will power to do so.
My feelings are that with that kind of courage one can take the insensitive remarks with a grain of salt and laugh at them , I am sure some of those if not all have 1 phobia of some sort which they will not admit to.
Many just get onto their soapbox and blow a lot of bubbles .
There is 1 person in particular here who just gets under my skin with almost every post but i will be damned if i let that run me off , i can dish it right back as well as take it.
Please reconsider and continue to share you photos , questions and comments with those of us who do enjoy those posts.
Remember its far easier to run and hide then it is to stand your ground and face things ( as you have proven you can do by the story and photos  to you for that .
I despise snakes also, yes i know many are harmless but the thing is , you walk up on 1 and it just suprises you and scares the crap out of you and makes you hurt yourself .
A few years back we had a 5 1/2 ft long water moccasin laying on a 1x2 board on our front porch and mind you this was over 6 ft off the ground ,yes I killed it with a shovel and their bite can cause serious injury and pain sometimes even death .
It's been a pleasure having you here and I wish you the best no matter what your choice is.

The fear of snakes is one of the oldest evolutionary defense mechanisms we know of. Some researchers theorize that the most deadly opponent of our long-ago tree dwelling ancestors were snakes - fall out of the tree and you were in grave danger. So, although most people are not quite so phobic about them, the fear is still there in many, and should not be taken lightly. It's one thing to be phobic about something harmless (I have a friend who's deathly afraid of wooly caterpillars) but quite another to be fearful of potentially harmful beasties like snakes and spiders. Notwithstanding that 98% of them are quite harmless to humans, we still fear the slimy things.

Dooragdragon, thank you so much for the words of encouragement. It's folks like you who have made me grow to love this site and feel like I had friends here. I am one to back away from a fight at any price. Perhaps that sounds like a weakling, and perhaps I am, but it's how I've lived my life. I certainly don't want to get everybody up in arms, choosing sides or anything like that, but I did want to make it clear to those who are being rude that it's unacceptable. They won't miss me and I won't miss them. I know that I am not the only one to leave because of these types of people. I just hate to see a good thing messed up.

PhOtObug sorry U are leaving but I understand why. I also thought about leaving. I am a bit thickskinned and decided to be a thorn in their side. Most comments are nice but U have to consider the source and take the comments with a grain of salt. I won't even ask for help. I've seen comments others have received. Good luck to U.

I love freedom. I've quit when I felt like it and come back when I wanted to. Like all of life. There is some suffering and some pleasure. So never complain; just say thank you. That is a goal not a commandment.

I wish you well and I hope to see you again.

Thank you all for the kind comments. I do believe there are more folks here with a good heart than not. I think we should form a blog of "People who don't like snakes"! Looks like we could get a pretty big group. Not sure I could stand on going conversations about them, though. :)
Must sign off for an appointment. If Admin has not removed me by the time I get back I will continue to look in until they get it straightened out.
