There is $1 Trillion in cash in the US companies. Many are buying back their own stock. Many of the "investors" are on the sidelines.
So all this company $$$ makes it look like a recovery is going on.

There is forecast of a drop of as much of 40%, depression looms
on the horizon. Too much wall street manipulations going on.

Other than buybacks, where is the money?

Why would companies buy their stock if the are expecting a 40% drop? More likely they hope to sell it at a profit in the near to moderate future....

They will borrow against the value at historically low rates, have the money and the stock at a low cost!

Where is the money coming from? maybe unpaid taxes? we hear that Apple may owe the tax man a few bob (too many companies now avoiding taxes in counties in which they operate)
Makes sense to buy back your own shares, invest and control your own company, lets face it if a company is cash rich why put it on deposit at a low interest rate particularly if you have confidence in your own business why not invest in it? this gives you good options for the future
Still who gives a fig anyway we the sheepeople (sheeple) will just carry on as before i.e. pay up and shut up
ps a 40% drop unlikely depression does not loom it has arrived we are witness to a reversal of economic power we the western world are in decline and the third world is set to beat us hands down (they have stripped us of the means of production so it is only a matter of time how did this happen - GREED)

Maybe I'm a little naive but it smells a little like some insider trading is going on. It's one thing for an individual to buy shares in their company because they believe in them, but for the company to purchase the shares seems a little bit on the seedy side. They have inside information what the company is doing and would be able to control the sale before a major drop on the price, or buy more knowing a rise in NAV, split or capital gain would be forthcoming. If this is a major trend going on with these companies, then they all know there is money to be made going in that direction. Another way for the good 'ol boys to line their own pockets at the expense of everyone else.

These kind of buys are heavily regulated with advance notice requirements just like Management buys/sales.
Companies do it all the time for various reasons.

What have you been reading? A company buying their own stock sounds counter-productive to me.

Has anyone else been reading the book about Warren Buffett??
All of the above questions are answered therein and when you read about how and why he does what he does to accumulate money----it all makes sense!!

Have you considered taking a course in economics and finance instead of listening to the likes of Beck?

And nothing ever flies under the radar? We are talking about companies with some ruthless and smart corporate lawyers who know how to get around anything and everything. Do you really think they are that heavily regulated? Do you really think every company is so honest in the way they make money that everything is disclosed? Who was that judge that used to say, "I was born at night but not last night"?

Too late for me to be taking courses in anything old sarg---When they had that calendar predictor to tell us how many days we've been here a couple of days ago, my count was near 29,000, so even if Beck didn't get it right about Buffett, he still has amassed enough money for anyone to wonder how he did it and us "old" guys might still learn something....try to learn something new every day....keeps your mind active!!

What I said was these kind of buys are heavily regulated not each and every activity that a corporation does or is involved in. We were talking about the fact that some corporations were buying there stock back. Maybe you should start a thread about how corrupt corporate America is or something.
