Specifically, sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy. Have not been doing much photography lately with the birth of two grand sons (yeah, tons of pictures there!) and was looking at the microscope and the film canister I filled with Omaha Beach sand and...

Excellent study! Lots of silica, mineral rock, and shell particles.
Looks like close to 10:1 magnification (10x life-size). What microscope set-up used?

I used a 4x objective and an Amscope camera adapter which says 2X on it. I have a bunch of images of a stage micrometer that lets me measure to 10 micrometers, but need to shoot the series over again with the new camera adapter.

Eric: how do light it? I have a 5x objective, but I'm right on top of the subject. lighting almost has to be very directional or I get the shadow from camera+lens.
