Love a challenge but WHOA!!!
I find that the best photos of children are the spontaneous candid shots.
Number 2 is amazing! Great shot! I really enjoy photographing children! In fact it is my favorite thing to photograph! They can't hide their emotions behind a fake smile!
One of my frustrations as I get older is my eyesight is not as sharp as it used to be. I still love taking photos of children, teens and up. I really enjoyed the crispness of the photo of the little one flying up in the air. The other shots with the captivating eyes really catch your attention. I still am learning at 73 and enjoy it. The following are some shots of my grandchildren at local park. I welcome any comments or suggestions.

These are fantastic and the little boys eyes on image 2 are intense!
Thank you all for the warm welcome to the forum.
You comments are greatly appreciated as well.
I thought I'd post some more photos, this time of older kids.
the first set is excellent, with numbers 2 and 3 being outstanding
Very nice! #2 baby is precious! Group photo is great....love the expression of child. Have you thought of cropping it a little bit? I think you could do it a little bit all around and show their sweet faces a little better. Good work and keep posting.
absolutely gorgious! What camera and lens did you use?

Thank you. I have cropped it, but you lose the great sky. I gave it to the parent both ways.
I have a Canon EOS 40D and use a Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS as my primary lens.
I'm hoping to get a Canon 5D by February, but we'll see!

Anyone who has the patience to take good pictures of small kids has my blessing. Years ago I was asked to photograph a 4 year old along with a 1 year old for a family album. I'm no professional but the family insisted I was since I had an SLR.
I spent two days and a lot of film to get a handful of good shots (passable) not to mention the huge amount of flash bulbs.
I'm glad I'm an amateur and to this day will not attempt to take formal pictures of young kids and weddings, and I'm living happily ever after.
Again, my congratulations to those who have the time, expertise and patience to make these pictures possible.
I don't wish to hijack this post, but would like to share a few of my children shots. Did I say how much I love photographing children? I didn't mention that, did I? Well, lemme tell ya, I love photographing children.
Ok, I think I'm done hijacking, now. First key thing is to chat with the wee ones first. Before even entering the shoot room. They need to be comfortable with you before you even pick up the camera. Sing songs while shooting, toddler songs, such as Itsy Bitsy spider, ABC song, or make up songs that are silly. Music is such a calming, entertaining distraction to their fear. If I were to choose a 'type' of professional photography, it would definitely be young children.
some great pics there Susieb..I agree youngsters are fun albeit challenging sometimes and I can see why some people wouldn't like to shoot them often..
