The Goreme Open-Air Museum is the most famous site in Turkey's Cappadocia region and considered to have some of the finest examples of rock churches and beautiful frescoes. Medieval orthodox christians carved the cave churches from the soft volcanic rock and decorated them with elaborate Byzantine frescoes. It is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the two first UNESCO sites in Turkey.

How fortunate for you to get to see this wonderful place. I have only visited by National Geo specials, and now your pictures. Very nicely done showing not only the outside but the inside as well. Is it true that the local people still use this place for worship?

Appreciate your kind comment. As far as I know no one is allowed to worship there. Glad you enjoyed the photos.
