Wow, RE, he just "sat" there and posed for you, didn't he? These are really excellent pictures! Keep 'em coming!

Thank you Sue! Yes, he was the most non shy humming bird I have ever come across! I have feeders in my yard and we always enjoy watching them, but this guy seemed to enjoy being watched! :-)

Beautiful! What shutter speed? Those hammers' wings are too fast for the naked eye, but not your shutter.

Those are great! I'd like to know what shutter speed also. I put mine on 1600 and got a few today. I'm trying out one of my new eyes. I got cataract surgery on one eye in Feb. and getting the other one done in 3 days. I'm so excited because I got corrective lenses and the first one did great. I'm looking forward to catching up this summer. What kind of plant is that? I have a feeder but would love to have a plant they like.

I am afraid I am not going to be much help to you in regards to shutter speed. I am a new camera owner who is just now learning about such things. I have previously only had point and shoot camera's. I am now using a Nikon D5100, I had it on the auto shutter setting, micro using the 55-300 mm lens at full extension. I have been a shutter bug since I got my first camera at 8 years old, now I am hoping to become more knowledgeable to enable me to produce better photo's. I am glad you enjoyed the photo's.

That is a Jasmine plant, however it is only in bloom for a short time. If you want to attracted them all spring and summer long plant a few cannas plants, the love them! Our's have not yet bloomed but once they do the hummers will be over in that part of the yard a lot. I also have feeders for them. Congrats on your eye surgery, my husband was legally blind about 10 years ago when he had laser surgery done and what a difference it made for him so I understand the "new eyes". :-)

I'm like you about the shutter bug and I was really learning (I got a Canon t3i) but when my cataracts started growing so fast I got discouraged, so I'm getting ready to jump back in there. Thanks for the info on the plants too.

The shutter speed should show up on your computer when you review "info" after downloading.
