Take a look at your chip in a computer and see if you somehow got the pix in a separate file folder.
Took some out side and put the card in and they came up on iphoto just like 1st base photos. Ann
Could you have possibly shot some in RAW and the others in RAW and JPG or just JPG? The RAW (CR2) photos will not show up on some PP software, you have to process them first. Try your Canon Digital Photo Pro software and see if they show up, if you haven't already.

This week I took pictures of my grand son playing baseball. I stood across from frist base, then went across from third. When I got home and down loaded the pictures, the ones across from third base were not on there. They were in the viewfinder when i took the pictures. Can any one please tell me where the went. Thank you. I use a Canon T2i
I use a T2i and never had that problem, was Your Card full when taking the pictures and you didn't realize it, just a thought
I would place the Mem Card back into the Cam and see if you can review them at all . Then connect the mem card to the PC and look at it as if it was an external drive and see if it has photo files on it .. each one is a photo .. then see if you can open / view the files one by one ,.
My thought is that perhaps the camera didn't have the scene properly focused or exposed and the camera actually did not take any exposures in the third base portion of your shooting.
What mode were you using, e.g., A Creative Zone such as Av, Tv, A-Dep; or a Basic mode such as Full Auto, Creative Auto (CA), Sports, etc.?
I suggest that you think about your settings, then refer to your User manual, bet the answer is there and it will relate to the camera being "ready" to actually grab the shot.
Too bad you lost the shots, but you can go again to a game and try again. Be sure you're using a mode designed for action (Tv or Sports...)

How many pictures would you say were lost?
Did you see the pictures in the viewfinder or on the LCD after the picture was taken?

This is my thought - if you were in "review" mode, and didn't switch back out, it may have stayed there. Some Canons are not smart enough to warn you when you do something dumb - mine isn't - I took the greatest fall foliage pictures of my life, about a dozen, before I realized there wasn't even a card in the slot !
Does it come back to shooting mode when you press the shutter?

Did you connect the camera to PC to download the pictures or did you remove the memory card and used the card reader? after you copied the pictures to PC did you delete the original pictures from memory card? If not can you go back and see the picture in the view finder? If the picture is not there then I guess you lost it.

Is there a Menu choice to control the no-card shooting?
this has happend to me once with a T3i, I was shooting in a manuel/ semi manuel mode and I was shotting from strong light to my back and then turned to strong light faceing the lens. what I did not notice was my settings went behoned the camera and lens cappablity... ie apture, shutter speed, ISO were behond what the camera can handle. I thought the camera was capturing the photo but even after pushing the shutter release all the way down the camera refeuse to take the photo.. all photos were not captured with settings out of specs.
hope this helps.
sorry for your loss

Nope - dumber than that - I was shooting backlit stuff, and didn't notice the "No Card" warning and refusal to trip the shutter (See previous posters comment) until the last one.
I thank some of you have hit it right, I don't think it was properly focused, The light was stronger at 1st than at 3rd which was in the shade where I was standing......Thank you .....I will try it again next game.
I need to stop and remember the camera is smarter than I am...lol

I feel your pain. As I walk through my house, I am intimidated by the smarter-than-me electronics all around me: the toaster, TV, cell phone - the list is endless.
