Hi :)
Can anybody help me with this issue?Looking for a good wide angle lens for my Canon 650d. Price range about 2-2500$. Landscape and astrophotograpy is the main reason for this buy.
Thank you for your help and advice :)
Cheers from Norway.
I have the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 It is a very good and clear lens. DOn't know if it is good for astrophotography; but I use for landscapes and like it. Did not cost anywhere near what your budget is. Might, therefore, not really be what you are looking for.

I use a Tokina 12-24mm f4 for landscapes. It is very well made & is razor sharp, & cost nothing like the figures you mention. I haven't used it for astrophotrography but I can't see why not.
You can check out samyang wide lenses at japanfoto. They are very good, best lenses for the value.
Are you looking for zoom or prime?
might check out Sigma 8-16
Canon 10-22 ultra wide
I recently bought the Sigma 10-20mm for my Canon 600D and I'm happy with that. It makes quite a bit of difference from my usual lens of 18-200mm You can get the f4-5.6 for under Australian $400 from Hong Kong. I have no idea what you would need for astrophotography.
I have debated this issue for a while also.I have rented the sigma 10 to 20 the canon 10 to 20 and the tokina 11 to 16.I am the type of person who will reasearch check out reviews and ask a lot of questions before any purchase when it comes to photography. The final deciding factor was from members here on uhh some members posted photos for me and I have to say it help me make up my mind.I also have to say it showed there talent.I have seen photos of astrophotography from all lenses that I mentioned and I have to say the Tokina 11 to 16 is the winner for me.I am pulling the trigger next week.Good luck with your decision and keep posting those fantastic shots from your home land. You have posted some some stunning shots.

:) :) Canon makes a wide angle lens you might consider. EF 24mm 1.4L IS II USM that does a spectacular job within landscapes. MFSRP is $1749.00 USD but a refurb from Canon can be picked up for $300.00 less.
The more I use mine the more I like it. Can also be fun for portraits and macro. It is a lens well worth considering, at least to use as a comparison to others. Check the Canon web site for user reviews.
GL with this project. Let us know your final choice.
I have also purchased the Tokina SD 11-16mm f2.8 (IF)DX and find it great for landscapes or getting a team shot in sports. Also great for shooting a party when you are in close quarters and can't move back. Have no idea how space pictures would work out, I guess you magnify them with the telescope that you use? The Tokina takes nice sharp pictures and is no where close to your price range, I believe it ran about $575 - $600 USD.
Take a good look at the Canon EF-S 10-22mm USM. I just bought one, after a long exhausting research, it was the best for the money. Actually, it is almost "L" quality glass but without the moisture/dust seals as "L" glass. It can be had on Ebay for around $500.00US.
As you may or may not know, wide angle lensse for crop frame DSLR's are handicapped by the full frame size of the mirror boxes. If you are serious about image quality, and it appears you are by your budget - the 15mm Zeiss is very highly regarded as is the Canon 17mm TSE and both of these fall in the top range of your budget. If you do not need SLR function, I like the new Fuji mirrorless series cameras with the new 14mm ! If you can wait awhile, Sony is said to be working on a full frame NEX where you could use Leica lenses.

Terje,
I use the Canon 10-22 mm superwide and now consider it essential to my landscape, interior and exterior architectural, and close-up (non-macro) photography. On your camera it would equate to a 16-35.
