Yup, I have also succumbed to the alluring siren song of the sigma monster zoom.
Works pretty well, I am happy with the investment.

I too lust for the big Sigma but...I shoot a lot of stock stuff and the pixel police peek carefully at every photo zoomed to 100%...I know why bother but tis what is so...My question is the eagle would not cut it for stock...Is this typical of what the Sigma can do or was soft focus (at 100% zoom) more a matter of hand held, big lens, etc. Understand please I am not critiquing the shot, just curious if the big Sigma will do the job I need it to...over and out..Chuck

After reading your post on that awesome zoom lens I checked Amazon and found it to be $1,019.00. YIKES. Now I want one too. I may have to blame you all. Sorry. =)
Am brand new to this group and am enjoying and learning a lot from you fellow photography lovers.

Ya know, that's a good point and am thinking I may approach my husband from that point of view. He wants me to healthy and it's an investment in that cause. Something REAL he can do to help me stay mobile. Yup!! A sure thing. =)

i have a 100-400 canon l series lense and also the sigma 150-500.i always turn to the sigma as it takes much better photos.
compared to the canon yes the sigma is larger and heavier but i love the lense.

I too am always on the search for that long lens - I found it in my Panasonic Lumix FZ 18 bridge camera - BUT - it has gone to the closet for a while as I now have a Canon Rebel 350d & found due to it's internal stuff that is a mystery to me turns my 100-300 in to a 160-480 - well we will just have to see how this works as spring rives with it's wild life and wonderful landscapes.

As some of the folks on here do not talk much of a think much of tele converters I have had good luck with the one on my FZ18 and a matched 2X for my film 35-70 so when I got this Canon 350d kit with 18-35 and 100-300 I bought a 2X right away - it works fine on the 18-35 but is crap on the 100-300.
I am sure I'll go for a 1.4 in the near future.
