So many photo papers to choose from.....
Your thoughts about photo print paper....
I am finding it harder to choose a favorite paper then it was to pick out my last lens. Would UH members help me with some of their favorite papers.
I have a Canon Pro9500MarkII printer, pigment ink. I print up photos for my wifes art shows. Usually street photos from around the world, color, 13x19. I have had good results with Canon Platinum Pro, high gloss, and the Canon proofing paper gives very similar results. But high gloss does NOT seem to be the professionals choice. I want to know more about choices and advice Ugly members may have for me, and suggestions for less expensive paper than Hahnemuhle.
I have tried Ilford Smooth Pearl too gray.
Hahnemuhle FineArt Baryta very heavy, good results, funny speckled finish
Hahnemuhle Glossy FineArt- very good.
Hahnemuhle FineArt Museum Etching have been told is one of the best display/archival paper, but the matte finish dulls the colors and makes it less sharp than the glossy paper.
From my previous experience working at a commercial photo lab, matte or semi-glossy finishes are preferable for wall-displayed prints. Often high gloss finishes can be problematic due to reflection they give off if the display lighting isn't perfect, making the images difficult for viewing.

If you use Epson printers - RED RIVER papers cannot be beat. Their profiles are spot on!
http://www.redriverpaper.com/We use a RIP program for our printing, called Image Print by Color Byte Software and they advised not to use ILFORD for Epson printers (ink)....and I don't think they support their papers with profiles either - unless they have changed.

When I display my Photos, printed on glossy paper, I use a frame with glass so there will be reflections anyhow.
So maybe a matt finish would be better for frameless pictures.

Glass should never touch ink jet prints......use a matte.
For 8.5 by 11 I like Staples photo supreme satin paper.
Very heavy and not too expensive. papr weight is 80 lb.
I have two Canon printers - I get exceptional results with Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy 11 on both my A4 and my A3 printer.
Of course I am an amateur and don't aspire to sell my prints so maybe my standards are less than you are looking for.
The Owner of our local camera store said I'd like the Ilford Gallery so I bought a box and will check it out soon.
Marc :-D

You may refer to the book "Fine Art Printing for Photographers" from Steinmueller and Gulbins published at rockynook. They do an in-depth analysis of all possible combinations of printers and papers. (used copies on bookfinder.com)

This is a book that I have and it is a very good guide.
For those who may be interested in other books, I have and can recommend, these:
George DeWolfe's Digital Photography Fine Print Workshop
and
Mastering Digital Printing, 2nd edition by Harald Johnson
I have a Canon 9500 Mark II as well, and have used and liked the Moab papers. (I use Hahnemuhle papers as well, but mostly on my wide format printer where I can buy in rolls to help bring the price down.). I am especially fond of the Moab Exhibition Luster 300. It is a semi-gloss / luster finish with nice weight for images you wish to sell. Takes the pigment inks quite nicely, and sells at a reasonable price. Worth looking at.
I have a Canon MP 830...a little older but like the fact it does a nice job and the inks are individual.
I've been using Red River paper for about a year with an Epson printer and the results are phenomenal, to me anyway...Norm
