For a "walk-around" with my D300 I use Nikon's 18-200, wiht my D3 I use the 28-300. If I have a specific purpose, then I'll use the best that I have to fit the purpose

I like my 24mm - 70mm Nikon for general walk around with a Nikon D700.

On 24x36mm, film or digi, 35/1.4 or 50/1.5. I find zooms too slow in maximum aperture AND too slow to use: the time I spend tweaking focal length means that I'm more likely to miss the moment. With a prime, there's more incentive to be in the right place at the right time.

But for street photography, although I normally prefer 35 and 50, I've used just about every lens I possess at one time or another. There are examples here from 15mm to 300mm: http://www.rogerandfrances.com/subscription/ps%20street.html

My choice is the 24-70L and the 70-300 on my 5D. A little heavy but the product makes it worth it.

Thank'ee kindly -- and thanks to to photoAl too for the kind comments. There's quite a lot of updating in the works, but I just can't get on with Adobe Dreamweaver.

Cheers,

R.

Always the 18-270 or 28-300 Tamron lenses with vibration control. Best in my book!

If I am worried about weight, I just carry my 18-200vr. I know it's slow, but with digital you can always vary the ISO. Fortunately my d300 handles low light situations without much noise. For critical situations I use 70-200 vr f2.8 and my 17-35 f2.8.

I usually have an 18-270 or 28-300 mounted on my cameras. I will also carry a point and shoot, with an extended zoom, and a 2x extender.
Most of my shots cover a broad range. I hate to carry extra lenses. Though there is usually a 50mm and a 10-20 wide angle in the bag. They are probably back at a base camp, or in the hotel.

All urpose lens: Canon 28-300 F3.5-5.6 IS. Its widest focal length is borderline wide angle, and the opposite end is a legitimate super zoom. It handles nearly all photo challenges well, but is heavy to carry around long. That is only a minor annoyance.

I do love when this question surfaces. It's always interesting to see what people are shooting with. My 80% always on lens is my 50 1.2L. It skips around the city with me most of the time.

That's quite the lens, and a great image posted, thanks.

Thanks! The only other walk around I use on a regular basis is my 70-200 f2.8 IS

Wow! Tripsy must be a weightlifter when not taking pictures! Personally I like my 24-105 F4L used on a 5D Mk2 although only f4 the IS makes it very useable and I have a lensband to make it behave when I'm out walking! I used to have an 18-55 kit lens when I shot with APS type cameras and that was OK too! I have a P+S in my glovebox but so far have NEVER used it!

My 17-55 stays on my D90 nearly all the time.
