Look at the Sigma AF 800mm F5.6 HSM at 1/3 the price. It works GREAT!

How can you persuade your "other half" that you absolutely positively need the new AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR lens?

I told my wife I wanted a lens for my Canon but I always was outbid on eBay. She says "I'm sorry" of course I say thanks honey it's ok. I was bidding on my 1st L lens & had my phone notify me minutes before the bid ended. Just so happens we were sitting on the porch when my phone alerted me. I ran inside placed the winning bid & ran to the porch & said "I finally won the bid for my lens" she congradulated me. Days later she asked "BTW how much was that lens?" When I told she was a bit upset because I didn't discuss the price. I asked her would she have said no, she said probably not but sheeeesh I had no idea lenses cost that much. I justified saying it 1/2 price compared to new lens....I hope my next purchase doesn't freak her out.
Good luck

What's her idea of the dream vacation? Tell her you''ll take her and you need that lens to properly photograph it. I'd start at that dinner at a 5 star restaurant.

Not to worry. It is cheap compared to the 1200-1700. So on economic terms, it is a good value. The filters are only 52 mm so you may be able to use the ones you have.

And at 10.2 lbs, she can share the pride in ownership by carrying it for you.

And the greatest part of the deal is that if you buy it from B&H, you can save $30 on LightRoom.

If this works, send me a PM and I will try it on my wife.

Try the 600mm F4 with a 2.0 TC 111 - OK not as sharp as the 800 BUT at half the price a lot less likely to provoke marital discord.

I was considering selling one of my children to medical science to buy an 800 but I could not get any takers at that price.......

My wife does as I tell her. If i want a new lens, I buy it.
Oh, God, I'm going senile, even I don't believe that.

Lie, lie, lie. Perhaps a story about a lottery win!

Good luck with it.

I like camping, but the bed is so much more comfortable.

Me neither. I don't think she would forgive my purchase of a 400 f2.8 :)

I just finished my collection (yeah right) with a 105mm Micro f/4 and my reasoning has been "gearing up for our Alaskan cruise in July". This has been working really well but not sure what excuse I'm gonna use after we get back home. I'm up for suggestions. ;-)

If all else fails I was given a good method by our local motorcycle agent for those having trouble getting a new bike purchase "approved".

Your camera dealer rings your home when you are not in and explains to your other half that you entered a prize draw for a new lense the last time you were in the shop and you have won the first prize! Need I go on...
