canon store refurbised $781.00
Where do these rumours come from? The Canon EF 24-105 L IS USM is not, as Jpintn said, a "kit" lens. It is a high quality professional spec lens and one of the best lenses Canon make. It has no more vignetting than any other lens in it's class, and this would only be noticeable when used wide open, and on the RAW files, as the later Canon bodies automatically correct this in the Jpg files. It needs to be paired with a 7D or 5D Mk2 or Mk3 or 6D body to realise the best that it is capable of delivering.

I agree. I think the confusion comes in because Amazon and others sell the 6D and 24-105 paired as a "kit". That's how I got mine, back in January, and as I said, if you can get the 6D and the 24-105 for $2400 or less, that's a no-brainer, AFAIC. Many people are doing this and selling the 24-105 on eBay because they already have one.
My 24-105 came with my 5D Mark II at a very nice discount.
I'm hoping to find one that someone doesn't want for some reason (ie, they have a 24-70 f/2.8)

There are tons of these for sale by people who have either bought a 6D or 5DIII kit, and are selling the lens to offset the cost of the camera. They usually sell between $700-800.

I might be looking to buy a Canon 24-105 f/4 L but don't know yet. I was told there's some vinetting in the corners at 24mm. I was wondering if anyone out there has one, and if so, how do you like it?
I'm hoping I can pick up a good used one, but am not sure as the prices I've seen seem to rival buying them brand new (so if I'm going to pay that much, I might as well get a new one).
I use the 24-105L on my D40 I love it. You can get some vinetting wide open but as it was mentioned earlier it can be a positive for some photographs. I do any correction that may be needed with Apple Apeture PP

ok. now I just need to find a reputable dealer that has a good price on it.
there are great deals out there on that lens. Many people upgraded to 6D which came with the 24-105 but many already owned the lens.
Thinking upgrading to L glass and 24-105 f/4 L seems to be a good choice; would I be losing much range from my EF-S 18-135 f3.5/5.6 on 40D ? I generally shoot grandkids, outdoors & farm life.
I can definitely tell the difference in sharpness with the L lenses. That's the reason I'm looking at getting a 24-105.
agreed see Canon's MTF chart
The 24-105 is one of the best lenses I have ever owned... sharp, good mm range... get it!
I finally bought one. So far, I have no complaints under than the zoom drift. That's something I can live with. The lens sharpness is decent. I'm happy.
The lens is performing well. I'm glad I got it. Hopefully, if anyone has questions about this lens in the future, they will see this thread and know that it's a sharp lens, fast focus, and the range is great.
I've seen lenses with greater focal range, but those aren't as sharp and the focus isn't as fast. This lens is a good performer.
