Joelbarton87 following is your Quote:I have been looking at getting a canon 24-70mm f2.8L but have been looking at other peoples photos who have a 60D and a L series lens an im just not seeing the results.can some one tell me am I wasting my time getting a L series lens with my 60D or is I just a lack of talent on other peoples part.
I took this as an Insult on the other members here at UHH. If not I apologize.

You're a hypocrite fstop22.
That is a wishy washy half arsed apology that is not even really an apology. You might as well have not said it at all as you obviously didn't mean it as an apology.
Funny how you don't mind insulting peoples photographic skills yourself though - and in a much nastier way than you feel that Joel has here.

Again the OP is capable of taking care of himself. He even demanded an apology as he deserves if his comments are not what they seem. I may have misinterpreted his wording but that's between myself and Joel.
So, now you can call me an Ass, I'm sorry a Hypocrite because you feel I'm not apologetic enough For You?? And this makes you Less Hypocritical??

You won't see the difference by looking at images posted on the web. You need to look at and compare original (full size) image files.

Hello joel.Even though I am not a portrait photographer or a pro I do shoot a lot of events.I also shoot with a 60d and a 30d as back up.I have shot with the canon 24 to 70 and had great results.I also shot with the sigma 24 to 70 with good results. Not knowing what your budget is if it is affordable for you I would go with canon but to save money the sigma would be an excellant choice.on the flicker link if you would like to take a look some of the shots of the Irish festival were shot with the tamron 70 to 200.Good luck with your choices and keep shooting.

Hi all
I have a canon 60D and I mainly shoot portraits I use a 50mm f1.8 prime and a 18-200mm f3.5...

When shooting portraits 70mm is JUST BARELY in the range that I'd recommend...but you can. 85mm would be better, or even higher.

But be that as it may...the answer is yes....that lens will produce nice shots...if other people are producing crappy shots...well...lol...I don't know what to say.

It won't be a waste of time, you will have it for a long time, the NEW version II is a good lens, if a bit pricey.

Nothing wrong with your camera and that lens.

Quote:

should I get a L series of upgrade my camera?
many thanks
Joe.

If you are asking about lens vs camera purchase...well..the lens will be a huge step for you, and the camera will do the job so I'd say buy the lens if you are bound and determined to spend some cash.

fstop22 is operating at f22, well past the point of lens diffraction and in his case brain malfunction. I use this forum for helpful advice and I guess like you for constructive criticism. Now off my soap box.
I have a Canon 60D and until recently used the 50 f1.8 and 18-200 for everything including portraits. I have upgraded to the Canon 24-105 f4 L and the difference is simply stunning. I considered the 24-70 and after talking to some pro wedding photographers decided that the 24-70 was way too expensive, too short at the long end and my shaky hands need IS, their recommendation was the 24-105.
I have now taken 500+ photos with this lens and can thoroughly recommend it unless you really need f2.8, I have not found f4 to be limiting.
