I recently had a need for a shutter release for my point and shoot camera.(non flash macro shots). I had an old stutter release cable that I adapted to the camera. The cable tie is the releasable type that is available in most auto parts stores. It is made of nylon and a small hole slightly smaller than the threaded portion of the release cable will allow you to thread the cable to the strap. Although this is defiantly an el cheapo low tech. solution it worked well.

Interesting how we go in circles. When I started in photography, many cameras didn't have provisions for cable releases. But people have always been creative. The following is from:

Sometimes, it's more about the principle of being independently creative rather than just saving money. Maybe, if we all starting thinking outside the box we could influence the price of photography equipment. Thanks for sharing. :-D

Very creative!!! That is thinking at it's best. Nice. But how do you get the roll of film out after you are done? :):):)

"necessity is the mother of invention" but then I guess saving money is the rather.

Nice...but can you break out of jail with just a rubber band and a stick of juicy fruit? :)

Very good idea. I can see in the background you are the crafty type. As a toolmaker I am always making something new or making something better.
Friends of my wife say "you're so lucky, your hubby can fix everything". She replies, "Not really, I haven't had anything new since 1993.

You know, it's kind of funny you bring this up. I recently took pocession of a Sony RX 1. For as advanced a camera that it is, the shutter release is drilled and tapped for the old style remote shutter release.

I also have an RX 100, NEX-7 and NEX-5N. None of these cameras have this feature. I'm guessing it's a retro thing to make it seem more like a Leica?
