A true story RV'ing experience

I was reading http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-107433-1.html and it reminded me of what follows.

About '98, my wife and I and our 100 lb chocolate lab were traveling east on I-80 from Reno, east toward Utah.
We were east of Fernely and had gotten east of where the road had split and then came back together.
It was a beautiful clear day and we could see forever.
Far to the east, I saw a black cloud very close to ground level but it was moving toward us at a very great speed.
Then it disappeared below some hills ahead of us, then topped over it and disappeared again, and again, and again.
Suddenly, it rose out of a valley running parallel to I-80, very close to us, and was coming straight at us.
It was a jet and was coming at us about 10 ft. off the ground.
At the very last second, it went upward and passed over us.
It was so close that I could see the pilot's helmet and could almost read the writing on the helmet's forehead.
I was pulling my 5th wheeler, combined weight about 20k, at about 70 mph.
When it went over us, there was a period of dead silence and, just about this time, our lab became terrified and jumped into the front seat with my wife.
After what seemed about 15 seconds, we shook violently and I lost all steering control.
Just as quickly, everything came back to normal - or so we thought.
I think I was in some kind of shock because I just kept driving.
When we got to Winnemuca, we stopped to get a soda out of the trailer.
Every cabinet, the fridge doors, the couch and tables and everything not bolted down were tossed around.
it was as if King Kong had taken hold of us and shook as hard as he could.
It must have taken us an hour or so to make some order of it.
I told a friend of mine that flew Army attack copters and he told me that the Navy has a large base, Nellis I think, where all branches practice low to the ground maneuvers.
I am sure we were very lucky that the jet draft did not topple us and I think it was partially due to the fact that my wife likes to load the trailer so heavy - she does not believe there are grocery stores outside of the town where we live.
I doubt this entire episode lasted more than a minute or two.

Anyone else have a RV story?

My friend told a story where he took his family out to the Mojave Desert to do some dirtbike riding on an off weekend. It was late, there was no wind, but he kept hearing a sort of scratching noise under his 5th Wheel. He slowly crawled out of bed and checked the windows looking for people who may be trying to steal his equipment, but saw no one. The noise stopped so we went back to bed. Sometime later he heard the noise again and a sickening sound that shook him awake. This time he jumped out of bed, grabbed his gun, readied himself, then burst out the door jumping as far away as he could and quickly turning back towards the trailer to face his attacker.

It was a sheep caught in one of the wires...

Not an RV story but a low flying story. 30 years ago we were driving across northern Wisconsin on Hwy 8 when a B52 crossed the highway just in front of us. It was more than 10 feet off of the ground but it was low and fast enough to get my attention. Probably doing radar avoidance practice. I am sure the cows in that area gave curdled milk that night.

Maybe that is where chocolate milk comes from...

One time I was driving across southern Missouri on Highway 60. Wife and kids were sound asleep and I was about half awake. No traffic, Mark Twain National Forest on both sides, just trees and a two lane deserted highway... All of a sudden a B-2 bomber flies over me, at treetop level, from behind, going same direction! (The B-2's are stationed in Missouri.)
Scared the #@^% out of me but it was the coolest thing ever!

It was big and a jet.
Seriously, there was no time to identify it, even if I knew aircraft.
I think we are lucky to be alive.

I remmber such an experiance about 35 or 40 yrs. ago while camping with my three oldest children. We had a popup camper were at torreya state pk. near bristol, fl. in fl. panhandle. We had just pulled into the camping area, and were sitting on a picnic table. Looking over the camp sites, as there was only one other camper there. And you picked your own site, and the ranger came around later to ck. you in. And all of a sudden here comes flying over our heads, at tree top level three jets from eglin air force base. As you said so low we could see the pilots. Was so peaceful and quite just before, and then scared us all to death. Have never forgot that

One time my wife were tenting in Yosemite Valley when a Navy jet probably from Lemoore NAS came through at about 100 ft.
We were told it had become some kind of dare with the pilots.
NPS had a discussion with the commander of base and stopped it.
