Just in case anyone is interested in what the initial "invitation" is like then I've copied and pasted it below. Interestingly enough I have heard nothing more from them and the account they had on the website I go on has been closed:

"Dear Scruffy,

I visited your website, and I liked your work. So I would like to invite you to submit work for inclusion in "International Masters of Photography”, a juried annual art photography book presenting noteworthy photographers from all over the world.

Please note that there is a participation fee if you are approved. If you are interested, I can send you more information or you can visit our website wwab.us .

You can see Volume 1 of this book and other previous publications of ours page by page on the same website. Please email me back at .

All the best,

They probably read this thread and realized the jig is up. I am glad that you even put this up. This should be a wake up call to a lot of people and I read a lot of good advice.

I went to the site and it looks nice, but I wonder what reality is. I still would not be enticed to fall for the hype.

The thought did cross my mind. From them being very keen (4 or 5 emails in a couple of days) I haven't heard anything at all. Saves me the hassle of a reply

Katkase, the reality is a large book of printed images from all who participated by sending them tones of money, there is nothing to wonder about, the books are large, hundreds of pages and okay quality. There is no hype... there is nothing to fall for... they have been out there doing this for years and will continue to be out there for years to come I expect, have no fear.

They prey on dumb people who don't even stop to do the math! And there are plenty of those types out there, though I am still amazed anyone falls for this crap, they have to be rather stupid really not to think it through and begin to understand the fortune the company makes each year.

What they promise is that your images get out there and are seen by thousands of people all over the world and you also get a copy of the book. They do what they tell you they will do, the only thing is, the thousands of people around the world seeing your image are as stupid as you for paying all that money to be in the book. Obviously all those who see your images from around the world will not be doing anything to further your photography aspirations, just as you will be doing nothing to further any of the other photographers aspirations, also featured in the book.

It is a simple con that has been going on for years praying on those with greater egos than brains. Any one of us on here could easily produce a book of images if everyone on this list sent us $60 and 5 images. You just find a book printer, fill the page with largish postage stamp size images and print the edition for as many people who paid up, with a min. of say 2,000 people. You would make a small fortune, so image how much this company is making, charging what they are and with the amount of people falling for it all over the world. I think it is a damn clever scheme really.

I always get paid when my photos and paintings are published unless for charity!

I wouldn't even open the email delete it and then delete it from your waste bin.

Firstly I apologise if this is a common occurrence on UH.

What's happened is that I received a very nice invite form someone connected with World Wide Art Books in Santa Barbara. A girl said she'd seen my photos on a photo sharing website I upload too and that she really liked them. I was asked if I would like them submitted to her editor to see if there were any that he would like to include in the upcoming publication of "International Masters of Photography". Since then I have been accepted for submission.

Now it was stressed that there would be an inclusion fee which varied from $800 up to £3000-$4000 depending on what spread I had in the book and how many pages etc. This seemed a bit odd (but not scamming odd) as I thought if somebody really thought a photographers work was worthy it would be included for less or for free. This could just be me being completely naive though.

Being a keen amateur I was obviously very flattered to be invited, but there's just a little nagging doubt. The cynic in me took over from the flattered!

If I was to be included I can't see how it would benefit me apart from vanity. I'm still very much teaching myself photography and feel I'm improving but what would I get from the book?

I'd really appreciate any comments of similar experiences or from anyone who has indeed invested in this sort of opportunity to see how you got on.

I hate being cynical all the time, but unfortunately the world we live in..........

I must point out that there has been no pressure whatsoever and any payments have been mentioned to me upfront. The emails have been very friendly. There is a website and the it looks completely genuine. I just don't know what I would get from the investment if I was to stump up some cash (which I don't have spare anyway so it would be a gamble).

Thanks in advance for any comments, advice, help

You already know better than to fall for this but you've got your wallet in hand and you're trying to convince yourself otherwise by hoping you'll get a positive reaction from somebody here.

If you have to pay to be included in anything - it's a scam. There's also a Who's Who directory scam in the U.S. where you pay for the "privilege" of being included although they'll accept anybody who has the amount they request. The Republican or Democrat political parties will send you a plastic trophy that says you are an honorary member of the President's advisory board if you donate $100. There are Publisher's Clearing House scams (not by PCH but fakes) who tell you that you've won $5 million and a new Mercedes car and all you have to do is send in $900 (or some other figure) to cover all expenses of the paperwork, etc. and elderly people here where I live actually fall for it, some of them draining their bank accounts by sending money two or more times. You can also become a "published author" by sending your manuscript and $5,000 to scam publishing houses then they send you 500 books ($10 per book your cost) and those sit in your basement until you sneak them out of the house one box at a time into the garbage because of your embarrassment of being duped.

Photographers are published for free and don't make any money. Photographers are published and paid, even if only a tiny amount. Photographers do NOT pay to be included in any publication.

I'd be multi millionaire many times over if I'd responded to the daily drivel that I get emailed. Deposits waiting all over the place :)

I have to admit this photography email initially got my interest going purely because I'd never had one before and never seen or heard of anything scam wise to do with photographs. It did seem odd that they wanted such a large amount stright up, but like I've mentioned earlier I wasn't sure of what the protocol was with regards to getting pictures published.
It became very clear within the first 2 pages of this thread that you dont pay!

I'm wise to it now, but thanks to your info and other info on here it highlights that scammers and shiesters are everywhere.
