Jesse Woodson James (September 5, 1847 April 3, 1882) was an American outlaw, gang leader, bank robber, train robber, and murderer from the state of Missouri and the most famous member of the James-Younger Gang.
On April 3, 1882, after eating breakfast, the Fords and James prepared to depart for another robbery. They went in and out of the house to ready the horses. As it was an unusually hot day, James removed his coat, then removed his firearms, lest he look suspicious. Noticing a dusty picture on the wall, he stood on a chair to clean it. Bob Ford shot James in the back of the head. James' two previous bullet wounds and partially missing middle finger served to positively identify the body
so they say.
Other recent data has indicated this might have been a staged killing and Jesse lived. Will we ever know ???
One a trip to Saint Joesph Missouri in 2009, my wife, daughter and I took a tour of the famous Outlaw "Jesse James" house. One thing to note about the gunshot hole in the wall. Over the years, sourvenir seekers have chipped away at it for a piece to take home. It is now protected behind a brass frame to prevent further damage.
My Great, Great Grandfather who lived in Clay County Missouri, wrote in his journal a story of selling supplies to Jesse James wife who went under the name of Zee Howard.
Enjoy some fun and exciting old West history...
