Jesse Woodson James (September 5, 1847 – April 3, 1882) was an American outlaw, gang leader, bank robber, train robber, and murderer from the state of Missouri and the most famous member of the James-Younger Gang.

On April 3, 1882, after eating breakfast, the Fords and James prepared to depart for another robbery. They went in and out of the house to ready the horses. As it was an unusually hot day, James removed his coat, then removed his firearms, lest he look suspicious. Noticing a dusty picture on the wall, he stood on a chair to clean it. Bob Ford shot James in the back of the head. James' two previous bullet wounds and partially missing middle finger served to positively identify the body…so they say.
Other recent data has indicated this might have been a staged killing and Jesse lived. Will we ever know ???

One a trip to Saint Joesph Missouri in 2009, my wife, daughter and I took a tour of the famous Outlaw "Jesse James" house. One thing to note about the gunshot hole in the wall. Over the years, sourvenir seekers have chipped away at it for a piece to take home. It is now protected behind a brass frame to prevent further damage.

My Great, Great Grandfather who lived in Clay County Missouri, wrote in his journal a story of selling supplies to Jesse James wife who went under the name of Zee Howard.

Enjoy some fun and exciting old West history...

Well James isn't it great that you can put a few photos on the forum just for fun and you open a whole history lesson. Not only that but you get peoples memories of their childhood. Thanks to you all and I just wish that I could come over the pond and see all these things for myself but at 68 I don’t think I ever will. But this is the next best thing. Keep up the good work.

Well Ken, I've always wanted to visit Scotland and England...mine and my wifes ancestries originate there, but like you it's just a dream for now. Glad you enjoyed this topic. It has been a fun one. My wife and I plan to travel this country while we can...I'll keep on the lookout for Old West stuff and who knows, I may start another topic similar some day. Enjoyed your stories...have fun with that kite flying.

Hears an interesting one James, last year my cousin gave her baby boy the Christian names Jesse James and could not figure out why we were all laughing especially me. She had never heard of Jesse James but the poor lad will have to go through life with the name of a bank robber

Speaking of famous cowboys, I was priviledged to have Roy
rogers as my witness to my joining the Army in 1959. I was raised at Cal Farley's Boy's Ranch outside of Amarillo, TX and he was there for a special day. It was a great day for me. I am in the middle in the white hat.

Love all the same things and totally agree Doddy. If I were to expand my Aviatar...you'd see me holding a Winchester rifle, but cropped it out due to all the controversy on guns. I grew up a big fan of all the Cowboys you mentioned...
