I don't know how long you are going to be in Vancouver for, but Stanly Park is a must see while you are there. Grandville Island market is another one to try and get to. If you have the time a side trip to Victoria on the ferry is also worth it as is a trip to Whistler, either one could be a day trip or over nighter.Have a great time....
And, of course, the mountains right above the city, such as driving all the way to the summits of Cypress Mtn. (
http://cypressmountain.com/ ) and the Mount Seymour (
http://www.onthesnow.com/british-columbia/mount-seymour/ski-resort.html ) or take the Grouse Mt. Gondola (
http://www.grousemountain.com/skyride ) or (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LogPLwCtqzk ). On the way up to the bottom terminal of the gondola is an awesome Capilano Suspension Bridge (
http://www.capbridge.com/ ) with a lot of trails and boardwalk paths around it. Furthermore up the road is Capilano River Hatchery (
http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/sep-pmvs/projects-projets/capilano/tour-visite/tour-visite-eng.htm ) with great displays. Right above the hatchery is Cleveland Dam and Capilano Lake - spectacular scenery (
http://www.greatervancouverparks.com/ClevelandDam01.html )! Also a must-see is Lynn Creek Canyon with its suspension bridge (
http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/North_America/Canada/Province_of_British_Columbia/Vancouver-903183/Things_To_Do-Vancouver-Lynn_Canyon-BR-1.html ). If you go to Whistler to ski, the brand new See-to-Sky highway to get there is just spectacular!
In the South-end of Richmond, a southern neighbor of Vancouver, is the village of Steveston with a fisherman's Wharf, retaurants, etc (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steveston,_British_Columbia ). A bit East from there, there's an old fishing village remnants called Finn Slough village (
http://www.finnslough.com/ ) or (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finn_Slough ). Quite spectacular too!
Don't forget the oldest part of downtown Vancouver - the so-called Gastown - eateries and shops (
http://www.seegastown.com/ ). Right above it is the Harbor Center Tower with a restaurant and an observatory at the top (
http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/North_America/Canada/Province_of_British_Columbia/Vancouver-903183/Things_To_Do-Vancouver-Vancouver_Lookout_Harbour_Centre-BR-1.html ). If my memory serves me well, you can come back at night with same ride ticket and go up again for free!
Vancouver is on my list as one of the most photogenic cities of the world! Enjoy!
