Yes...I see what you mean Joe...that first photo with the 6D is phenomenal!!! Love the flight shot with the 7D. How would you rate the full frame 6D compared to the 7D which is known for a great sports camera? It's really hard to tell..because a lot of it depends on the lighting. It seems the lighting in the first Great Grey Owl post of the 7D photo was excellent as it is for the 6D photo in this post.
Joe, it's legs are fascinating to me.They don't look like the typical "bird legs". Do the feathers cover their legs all the way to the claws? I figured they'd be more like hawk or eagle legs.

I think you've answered your own question Jan. The 7D, being cropped with amazing AF is a great sports and wildlife camera. The 6D with it's full frame and good ISO attributes is a wonderful portrait and landscape camera but it's comparing apples to oranges. I have both and like what they both do but I can't stack one against the other.
Am I beating around the bush or does it answer your question.

Hi Carlysue,
The feathers do go right to it's talons. This is a northern boreal owl and since he lives so far north he requires this to keep his legs warm.

I just got done comparing the still image of the 7D with the 6D and I can see there is more detail with the 6D. Thank you Joe for this comparison :-D

Jan, You have to look at the distance as well. The closer you are the better the detail will be. The 6D shot was taken at 200mm on full frame. The 7D with 400mm on a cropped sensor. There had better be more detail in the first one or I've wasted my money. All of the lenses are Canon 'L' type so they should be good but even there is a difference from one to to another. It never stops does it?

Bottom line is...you are a very talented photographer with two excellent cameras to work with...along with some great L series lenses :-D

Thanks Sandy. You'd have to see it in person to appreciate the size of the face. It's our largets owl and leaves nothing to the imagination. This is a wild owl who doesn't know people and has no fear so he allowed us to get very close.
