Richland Creek Viaduct (Tulip Trestle) - I love this view of the Viaduct, as it seems to reach out to infinity. The viaduct was built in 1905-1906 to connect railroads from Indianapolis, IN to Effingham, IL and was used to carry coal from Greene Countys hundreds of coal mines to large cities, like Chicago. It is 2,295 ft. long, 157 ft. high and is supported by 18 steel towers with 75 ft. spans. The Viaduct is the longest rail trestle in the United States and the 3rd longest of its kind in the world. It is an awesome sight and approximately four trains still use it daily.
Leading lines don't have to be straight, do they?
Looking up

Kerryanne, please tell the story about how you got that shot, and why the deer line up like that. I'd love to hear about the animal behavior part of this. Thanks so much for the fascinating photo!

What kind of lens did you use for this shot?
An interview with
1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have always had some sort of camera with me since I was a child. I really have gotten into photography more seriously with in the last 5 years.
2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have taken a couple semesters of photography (film and darkroom) back in the early 1990's for my AA degree. Although I take different types of photos I like photographing animals and birds most.
3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I was walking threw a swamp one day and decided to take a short break. I put my gear down and rolled my neck to work out the kinks. As I opened my eyes while looking up I saw my shot.
4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I took this shot with my Canon T2i and the 18-55mm kit lens with circular polarizer. No special set up except for laying down on my back and shooting strait up with the camera
5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Nope. I like this shot just the way it is.
6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Photography is my main thing but not the only thing I do. I do take breaks from it to work on other things such as stained glass.
7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I do not have a web site at this time but I am looking into it.
Keep up the good work you do St3v3M.
The contest(s) are Great.

Sorry to take so long to send a reply. I was out of town shooting cars at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. Didn't even know I had placed in the contest till I returned Sunday night. What a pleasant Surprise!!
1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Good grief. It's a shock to realize it's been sixty one years. Started with a plastic Kodak Pony when I was sent to the Far East by the US Navy.
2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Nope, no formal training at all.
3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
It's a close up shot of a Danish modern lamp I have had in my living room for many years. I also used that lamp for my avatar photo. The lamp is actually white, but I think it's more interesting when color is added in Post.
4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
It was taken about two o'clock in the morning. I should have used a tripod, but I didn't want to wake up my wife digging it out of the bedroom closet, so I just set the camera (a Canon SX40HS) on the table, propped the lens up with a bunch of keys and took the shot. The only light was coming from the lamp it self. The whole thing was just a quick and dirty process. I did a little cropping to improve the composition and added some color in post.
5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Yes, I'd use a tripod and might spend a little more time in post selecting a color.
6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I have no idea what that might be, but I'm sure I would do something to keep my mind occupied.
7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Just check out my list of postings on the Hog. I don't use any other site. ........ Coot

There was a family feeding the deer at the bottom of the hill. They were headed to the "feeding grounds". I thought it was really cool how they went there single file! I have never seen them walk in a straight line like that, I have no idea why they didn't head there in a herd..... but it made a great shot.
Congratulations ! Keep shooting :)
