Drove by the penitentiary in Lansing Kansas today.
Seriously, I do have a cousin in there somewhere.
Empty guard tower. Must be on break.
Notice the foil covering the window on the far right? I think they are growing pot in there.
I'm surprised they didn't chase you and your camera away.
They get pretty serious about security and keeping someone from helping others escape.

I would not want to be in there.

I don't know what they could do. I was on a state highway when I shot these.

probably not much if you were on the highway. I wouldn't suggest doing it on their property just for the reasons I stated above.

No kidding. I would just be asking for trouble.
The building itself is surprisingly colorful. The fences ruit it though.
Before we moved to a new facility, I worked at the Missouri State Penitentiary and spent many an hour in towers. The tinfoil was probibly there to block the sun. The towers were bake ovens in the summer and, with space heaters in the winter, your head cooked and youe ass froze. The towers by the railroad tracks vibrated with every train. Called them "Shake and Bake". No problem with people taking pictures from the outside. I used to walk outside with a shotgun to give them something to photograph. :D

Well, yeah. Maybe they should put that underground fencing in and the inmates will wear shock collars. Lol.

Yes. I knew exactly what that foil was really for. It is in every southwest corner of every tower that is on the south side.
