My vote for number one would be B&H with Adorama a close second.

I've bought plenty from both, they are A+...cannot go wrong with either.

I only use B&H! Never a problem for over 15 years. Just purchased a Olympus E3, Perfect customer service and shipping.

I think we should access the value of supporting our local stores where we can walk and get advice and handle the product and even test it our selves to see if it meets or needs.
Last Saturday I went to Roberts in Indianapolis and even after paying the sales tax I saved money. I tried a teleconverter to see if it would work with my setup satisfactory and it did not. The mark lll would fit my needs but not my pocket book. I ended up with a Monfrotto ball head and a Slik tripod for a good price and I got to try ever thing out. That is worth more to me than the savings of lower price that I will not be happy with

I am in the appliance repair and I see the same problem everyday. They go to the big box stores for the price then come to us and say we thought the price was right. They should have told us. Saving money is good but you need to be informed. The brick and mortar store has more over head and not the buying power of the larger stores and ware house type but they offer a service we can not get by phone or over the internet. Just my thoughts for today.
I have already had that happen, one on a lens that I would not have bought if I had tried it. Now I got a six hundred dollar lens that does not meet my needs.

Same here.

Those two get my vote too. Have also purchased directly from Canon On-line Store with excellent results and very fast delivery.

B&H is excellent. If you live in NY and want to save tax, Allen's
Camera Shop in PA. Bought my Nikon D7000 and recently ordered a Tamron 90mm 2.8. No tax and free shipping.

For Canadians I recommend Henry's, Vistek and The Camera Store. The Camera Store is a stand alone store in Calgary that ships anywhere in Canada.

In Baltimore City, I only know of one "Brick & mortar" camera store.
Service Photo, very good service and prices.

Online stores:
1) Amazon.com - If I know what I want with no help. I get points.
2) B&H
3) Adorama

I rate both B&H and Adorama very close.

For me B&H and Adorama are probably the best local stores, the others just don't seem to have the expertise that's available in B&H or Adorama for that matter. Also the larger afailability of competeing products gives the buyer a better choice, Bob

Cameta Camera of Long Island New York . Knowledgeable staff , friendly service. Excellent prices and have equipment in stock. Recently I bought my 41 st camera from Cameta 5D Mark III.They have all the accesories and almost feel like a mom and pop store . Give them a call and verify what I have said .

B-H, Adorama, Hunts, not necessarily in that order depends what and when you want to buy...Best service with all three has always been a given in my experience...over and out...Chuck

Sadly because of 'manufacturers restrictions' i.e. Nikon protecting their rip-off Australian outlets, these USA dealers can not ship to Oz. The 70-200mm, for example, would cost 50% more here, around $3000, at most of Nikon's Australian 'authorised dealers'. It's infuriating as many of these authorised dealers seem to be staffed by people who know nothing about photography - the add-value of using a local store is nil in my experience - and forces most of us into the so-called 'grey-market' i.e buy the same lens, made by Nikon in Japan, in HK but without a Nikon warranty. One way round it is to use one of the many companies which will ship from B&H etc via an American address - but I think it is still 'grey in warranty terms as far as Nikon Australia is concerned. This is not unique to photographic equipment. Australian retailers in general are still struggling to catch up with the 'online shopping' concept and their customers are deserting them for overseas suppliers in droves. It can only end in tears.
