Emma, keep in mind everyone will have a different opinion, and here is mine. Like the first tea photo posted before you darkened it. Also have you tried changing places with the milk pitcher with the cup?? Seems like the handles of each would show up better. Better balance?? Loved the face!!!

I always enjoy seeing the works of a creative mind-especially those that see things a little "differently". Nice painterly effects on first two and a I kept the third as a demonstration on thinking outside the simple plane!

I absolutely love the pear still life. Can you tell us about how you did it?

Emm,

From my vantage point, you are doing all of the right things with your still life and texture images. Mainly, you are not afraid to try things and have fun while doing so.

Of the various "tea set" images, I very much like the first one posted the best, for its mood. I am pretty sure you feel the same, otherwise you would not have lead off with this image. Only one thing comes to my mind with this image. One thing that often goes with tea is lemon. If you were to reshoot this just the same, but with the addition of a long lemon peel on the cup saucer, I think that might add just the right touch. There was a painter by the name of Peel, who did wonderful still life paintings, and there was alway some sort of fruit peel as a minor element in his paintings. Just a though that popped into my head.

On the three Pears, this is an all too often done composition. Try it with 5 or more pears, maybe mixing up the varities. Also, I think your image would be stronger if shot on a non-reflective surface. I like reflections; however, in this case I don't think the reflection really works.

Now for the "fork face". Excellent work. My absolute favorite on many levels. You should carry this concept on, with other utensils to create a series. Framed and placed into a gallery, this image would fly out the door. This creative image is something that I would buy, and I don't often say that!

I also love working on still life, right now I'm trying my best to photograph a cup of hot steamy coffee. Really tricky. Love the pears. Good job!

You could add a small serviette under the subject matter to make it look like a small table cloth, thereby eliminating the reflection if you did not want that, or you could mat it down a little with some hairspray. I love them all but the tea scene might be nice if you did a darker vignette on the edges of the image. Excellent use of textures and nicely laid out but the tea scene could use some adjustments on the handles and maybe even adding a tea spoon to the scene and or a biscuit on the saucer.
