Picasa is superb for downloading, quick editing, and storing.(amazing that it's free)

It will handle 80% of what you want to do.

More indepth editing, go with Elements 11.

As far as I know Photoshop CS2 is still available for free download from Adobe. It's fully functioning and is a very good way of finding out if Photoshop is what you want/need.

New to this so when I posted my thoughts, they were sent to a different subject....oh we'll...anyway, here are my thoughts on editing..

Along with LR and PSE 10, I have been using Perfect Photo Suite 7 from onOne Software, about $250 complete and with a trial version. This software is well worth the $$ as for me, it is very intuitive and affords the user many rather easy but professional ways of improving on the image that you see while taking the shot. Very intuitive and lots and lots of wonderful videos through their own University, as they call it. Their professionals go back and froth between either PS, LR or both but the important issue is for most of us, PPS takes so much less time to produce what one would do just in one of the apps above. I love working with PPS. One can open directly or go back and forth while your other apps are open.

For me CS6 is powerful and does everything but expensive. Elements 11 does 90-95% for 1/10 the price. Lightroom4 is what I use for 80% of my editing and all of my organizing.

It is so simple once you have the experience and know the truth. If you don't want to buy anything there is plenty to choose from for free.

Free Photoshop CS2 - try it out and see if it something you want to learn. It is a very big program with lots of advanced graphic capabilities.

Is photoshop and Picasa the samething? Does anyone now of a photoshop trial, I'm not sure if its for me, so I'd like to try it out, any ideas from this wonderful bunch of amatures such as my self would be great,
thanks,
Joe

If you're an amatuer & want to learn how to use it quickly & get results, I wouldn't go past Picasa. I have PSE9 but find it complicated & difficult to use. I use Picasa for most of my editing.

A pretty good summary.

I have PSE 11 but in all honesty I only bought it as i needed it for college to do things to industry standard.

I believe Photo shop could learn a lot from the intuitive way Picasa functions.

If Picasa had a layer function/s it'd be a killer!

Hello, I have been using Picasa to teach at a centre with older people with regards to downloading from camera to computer and then fiddling with their photos and it has been a great success with first time users, getting some great results during and at the end of a six week course, of one hour on a one to one session.

Thanks guys ill check them out,

Something you might want to checkout, is photoshop elements 11. This is what I would consider photoshop CS junior.

Cost from Adobe is $99.00. You can find it online for around $80.00 or less if you google it.
